Has anyone ever taken their toddler to an Osteopath in Switzerland?

While an osteopath may perform "Cranial Osteopathy", they are not really connected disciplines.

It's kind of the difference between "science" and "pseudoscience". I believe it used to be known as phrenology.

Yes, it was used to great effect to show that people were destined to be criminals...

... after they had been executed for their crimes...

Well, it's only right to be sure!

Cranial osteopathy & phrenplogy are totally different. Phrenology is all about the shape of the skull and supposedly being able to tell personality traits from the lumos & bumps. CO is about the release of tension & stress in the entire body through gentle manipulation. Not quite a match in descriptions there .

I keep being recommended cranial osteopath as treatment for my baby's colic. Just been reading this thread and someone also mentioned traumatic labour and fractured collarbone trauma etc... My baby got a fractured collarbone at birth from a c section that was a bit traumatic - so am now wondering if it's maybe his collarbone bothering him as much as the colic

Anyway am thinking it's worth a visit to an osteopath so does anyone have any recommendations for the Zurich area?

Loic Trémel in Seefeld.

He's located here:

Praxis fur Osteopathie Trémel Loic

Dufourstrasse 131

He's originally French-spoken, and speaks English better than German. He's also on the list for health insurance. Check to be sure, though, if your policy includes it.

I took mine to see Rachael at Bodyflow. She was great with him & I felt really comfortable with her. http://www.bodyflow.ch/treatments/cranio-sacral.html

I have had good experience with the staff at Kreuzplatz Osteopathy but have not tried child osteopath so cannot reccommend anyone in specific.

I think given your situation, it is a really good idea to try this, cannot harm him and may potentially make him really better

Cheers,

C

Trials have not shown any benefit from cranial osteopathy. Conversely, they've not shown any harm. Therefore it is as likely to cause harm as it is to benefit.

btw-Craniosacral therapy and Cranial osteopathy are the same thing. Except that practitioners of the former don't have osteopathic training. If you are going this route, at least use someone who's had some formal education on the subject.

Here's a little light reading about the effectiveness of the whole thing.

This systematic review and critical appraisal did not find valid scientific evidence that craniosacral therapy provides a benefit to patients
