I’ve essentially just let AI plan a holiday for me. I had so little time/energy I just gave it the dates I had to fly out and back and let it go.
After the itinerary, I asked it to find flight and hotel availability and list each one so that I can book them. I just booked the first one, as the AI told me there were only 2 rooms left so I should do that quickly. I think I’d better check up on everything else before I book the rest…
So you booked 2 rooms?
And double-check Google Maps or similar to see that the place recommended actually exists.
A warning on using AI for trip planning.
Some people are just stupid. Not turning back at noon, as advised, clearly shows a level of incompetence. Darwin was right.
It’s a bit of a non-story really.
They only used AI to tell them how much food and liquid to take.
The ineptitude in route planning/timing was their own.
Maybe AI gave them enough food, or the minimal amount needed for the hike but the hikers were incredibly slow, or scoffed or their food in the first hour rather than spreading it out throughout the day?
I think the danger is that as AI gets better people rely more on it and stop thinking for themselves. Similar to when people follow GPS and end up driving days for what should be a 20 min trip.
This is a nothingburger. They made pretty much every mistake they could other than having inappropriate gear:

I don’t know whether anyone has seen this or if it was already posted, but this was a good laugh. Could have been faked to get clicks though.
I’m not sure what the answer is, but I think these kinds of practices should be banned.
Which one? AI “interviews” or “racoon protocols”?
I’m somewhat paying for this now. The plan involved 6 flights and 6 hotels and this is a massive pain to book and organise and also as I’m booking them the estimated price is much higher than the indicated…

I really did not believe the hype about how dangerous AI could be and classified it as sci-fi stories but now I am starting to change my mind.
