Have you found any amazing uses for AI?

Thanks. I’d already blocked VegOut from my feed due to its low quality crap. I’ll keep an eye out for the others.

I made a quick QC check on the link shared on this thread from scienceblog.com

It’s almost like someone asked AI to write an article based on all interviews ETH Prof. Raffaele Mezzenga gave to media.

This is the give away of the operation:

@Phil_MCR wait a min…while reading the story I had this weird feeling of deja vu.

You have 1st hand experience on this. At the time, we reached for the pitchforks and went after Nelly Newsbot (RIP).

But, it seems the Brown Brothers Gang and Nelly Newsbot are quite similar.

What’s your take on this?

  • step 1 : human reads newsreader
  • step 2 : human picks 1 article
  • step 3 : human pushes button,
  • step 4 : AI gets link(s), generates summary and publishes

I think the difference lies in what the output is. I find AI generally bad at writing long form output such as articles etc. except possibly very dry technical stuff and even then they have can have a grating ‘voice’.

Summaries are generally better, but can also suffer from ‘voice’ but then again, an alternative is just to take first paragraph instead of doing a summary.

Argument that tiny slice of opex savings could pay for AI buildout.

I had a similar feeling but of the different type. I recognized some of the titles and stories of the “articles” as things I’d seen before and maybe even clicked on, particularly space-related topics. I do sometimes see bylines at the bottom of articles and think…really?

Thanks for the link to the Futurism article, which I hope was written by real people.

AI is dead! Long live SI https://youtu.be/J79e71pMrHI

Cost of AI falling fast. Maybe a lot more uses for it as it gets cheaper and cheaper:

Not clear if it’s capex or opex. End users only care about opex, so let’s assume this is the one going down.

We’re now in the discovery period to find out where to use AI and it’s effectiveness. Will productivity increase?

Cost is the cost per token you pay.

My last day to do tax return before I go on holidays. In a desperate attempt to get this done while not being mind-bogglingly bored entering trades, I tried to each the AI to fill it in for me and it seems to work!

tax-clip-final

The AI could work faster than this but I put a 50ms delay between actions so I could keep an eye on what is going on.

EDIT: apparently in 2025, I used BOXX as liquidity and so had 29 transactions against it. So happy when I saw: “All 29 BOXX transactions filled and verified. Fertig.”

EDIT2: mindblown. it works (it’s alive! it’s alive!) I hate filling in my tax return and happy that the AI is now churning through the 40 new stocks I bought in 2025: it’s going through the list, searching for the company in the database, adding it to the tax return after confirming ISIN match then adding the trades and saving the result.

Now this is amazing, even though it “translates” already-known contents, it gives hope that other uncrackable texts can be translated with some surety:

I remember reading about it at the time and wondering what the judge was thinking by allowing such a “victim statement”.

Only a game. But its your game.

Awww, even a machine has feelings nowadays.

Which begs the question where it stands on the victimhood pyramid.
