Does anyone know of a heated outdoor pool in Zurich or the wider surrounding area?
I'm being covid safe for one more winter and avoiding indoor sports.
However, I'm having joint problems and swimming would help.
I know the Hurlimann spa has small rooftop heated relaxation pool but I'm looking for somewhere that has a warm pool for exercises outdoors that is open during winter.
I could really hunt through the lists of pools and research each one, but I thought perhaps someone might know of some off the top of their head.
The alternative is to find out when the low traffic times are in your local indoor pools. Wednesday afternoons and weekends are likely to be rammed but maybe early mornings or directly after lunchtimes would be quiet.
It's a big topic for pools right now. Many indoor pools have reduced temperature by 1 degree and Alpamare will always keep two slides closed (in rotation every hour) to reduce power consumption.
Fortyseven (the new thermal pool in Baden) has a 25 metre outdoor swimming pool heated to 20 degrees. Very, very overpriced though at up to CHF45 for a standard entry depending on the weekday. Plus you have to go through the indoor area to get to it so not sure if you'd really count it as Covid safe.
Aquarena in Schinznach Bad also has a 25 metre outdoor pool, not sure how warm it is heated to. Much cheaper than Baden but further from Zurich.
Agree that Bad Zurzach is also an option if you don't find 32 degrees too warm.
One more option might be Hallenbad Altstetten which has a small outdoor wellness area heated up to thirty something degrees. It is much too small for swimming but might be big enough for gentle excercises. Again, entry us through the main indoor area. Cost is the same as the standard entry to all other Zurich pools.
Well it always used to be, no reason to believe it isn’t any more. To clarify, at Hallenbad Altstetten it is a small “wellness” pool as an add-on to the municipal pool so maybe suitable for gentle exercise but not proper swimming. There is a photo and some details on this page, you can see that it does have a small amount of free space but not much: http://www.bad-altstetten.ch/schwimmen/angebot.html . Baden, Schinznach and Bad Zurzach are 25 metre pools, also open in the winter, but these are part of “wellness” complexes and priced to reflect that.
Big Thanks for all the information. Yes, I'm interested in a little pool I can just do my standing exercises in water and then maybe also some longer swimming.
You may annoy people if you try and swim lengths in a wellness pool.
I don't think your idea really makes sense. You don't want to swim in large indoor pools (which can be pretty empty of people if you go at the right time) but instead choose a very warm pool which can be breeding ground for lots of bacteria.
