I am moving from Zurich to Germany sometime in the end of December. I don't have any furniture and have only around 9-10 boxes of items that I need to move. Looking at relocation costs from some companies, it looks like it might be cheaper to ship the boxes or drive them over one day myself.
I am surprised there is still no reply on this. We have a similar situation possibly coming up next year.
We contacted German customs and they told us to contact Swiss customs to start off with.
We found this quite perplexing as the Swiss are not interested in the export of personal goods.
As far as I can tell you need to declare everything to the German customs, so it is irrelevant if you have just boxes of stuff, furniture or no furniture.
I know someone who did it the other way around and said that the Swiss customs were really pernickety and counted practically every last sock.
What I don't understand is if you have to create a list of every single item. If this is the case, then if you're moving an entire household, that could take days to prepare.
