How to dispose of a dead bird?

he's a small bird with grey fur and a black head..

rather than being a 'present' I think that my cat is expecting me to cook the bird and serve it to him cut and without fur! but I think that today he will stay home with no food at all, as far as I am concerned.

I know that is his instinct and as long as he caught mice and ate the whole of them, as he used to do back in the peak district, I was 'fine' with it.

But having a dead bird in my balcony just for the fun of catching it, well, that's not nice..

Thanks everyone for your advice! I've just met the house keeper, which told me to throw it in the normal garbage and simply commented: that is life!

That is probably a great tit. (The best argument I have for the fourm members who insist that English is a superior language...))

Every Gemeinde must provide (or nominate) a place to dispose of animal cadavers. Check your Abfallkalendar/Abfall and it will be listed.

Having said that, they will undoubtably look at you very strangely if you turn up with a garden bird. Their usual customers are horses, dogs etc (i.e.>10kg) as previouly stated.

My cat is the other way around. She brings dead mice home for me, but the birds she brings home and eats them herself, feathers and all.

Remninds me of one of our cats when we were growing up. We were in the kitchen and heard the catflap go, to see Thomas trying to get through, arse first; the reason being he had a whole rabbit in his mouth and couldn't get in forwards. We chased him outside and he proceeded to eat the entire thing, bar a single foot (reminded me of the Mr. Creosote sketch). Took a few days for his abdomen to return to its natural size.

I've seen a few sparrows hanging around the McDonalds down on the corner... do you think they are up to something?

I like Thomas. Sounds like a legendary cat.

Yup, me too. A normal cat behaving like a normal cat.

lucky rabbit's foot?

He was mint. Full tomcat, who turned up one day demanding to be adopted. About 8kg of pure muscle. Totally black, crooked ears and little stumpy whiskers. I think he must have fought, and beaten, every cat in the village. And probably a fair few of the dogs too.

EXACTLY what I was trying to say! Why should cats and cat owners be exempt? If they kill wild life, then keep them inside or muzzle them! And the owners too if they can't behave!

could be a she. you want to get the headstone right

I'm confused now. It was a furry bird ? in which case have a closer look, could be a mouse impersonating a bird.

If you're talking about the cat without fur, he may not like that.

And then there's no end of Mrs Slocombe and her pussy jokes .......

this is slightly off topic.. and I'm not a cat person but the BEST cat I ever saw was in in a tiny village in Greece... greek cats are cute right? ... this was the scariest thing I ever saw.. mrs. and I called him Capone ( don't call me scarface )

he was filthy..given up cleaning himself, one eye, one ragged ear, one missing ear and a broken, limp tail

while people at cafes would normally slip the local cats a bit of something off their plates no one would ever ( in the two weeks we were there ) give Capone anything.. but there was a cheer in the plaza one night as he had just caught a rat.. and was having a nice old time chewing it down in sight of all the tourists.

Because cats and dogs are, as a rule, domestic pets. And cats, as a rule, kill wild animals and birds.

I honestly do not think that it is appropriate to compare such behaviour with dogs killing cats, children, etc. Do you seriously think that anyone would condone that?

A relative of Horse, perhaps...?

For the moment I put him in a little box with some flowers, and the box inside two plastic bags.

Not sure I can just throw him in the bin..

P.S. 17clarence , sorry, not fur but feathers!

I will soon forget every single word of English language..

Say a prayer and get on with it!!!

I must have confused you by saying fur rather than feathers, sorry.

more than I fight I would say the bird desperately trying to get away.. there were feathers everywhere in the balcony..

I'll do, I just post that and get on with my morning which is now about to be afternoon!!

Thanks everyone!

Yes, totally serious. We just got some information leaflet asking people not to wrap their dead pets in blankets when disposing as it is not pleasant for the person emptying the place to unwrap them. Pet disposal is next to the regular recycling bins.

PS it's a smallish bin and meant for house pets, certainly can't squeeze a horse in there. Not sure what they do with horses and cows in our gemeinde.
