Unfortunately it isn’t legal to grow it if the THC is over 1%. (Used to be able to until 2002 because CH had to comply with UN mandated laws.)

However, it isn’t a criminal offense if it is under 10 grams of weed, and one plant does not count for that. The worst that could happen is a 100 CHF fine. We grew one once, it was quite stinky - so if your neighbors are annoying, it could be risky. I know a girl that has a whole cultivation on the roof that she shares with her building.

That sucks that you can't grow it here (not legally at least). That really surprises me that one plant wouldn't produce much more than 10 grams though! I guess I always imagined one plant to produce quite a bit.

But yeah, that doesn't surprise me that it would be quite stinky. I guess there are ways of keeping the plant(s) small so maybe that would cut down on the stink a bit, but not sure. I guess one could always tell their neighbors that it's a CBD plant. I'm still tempted to see if I can get some seeds to germinate though... if anything, just as an experiment.

Or just grow one of those auto-flowering strains (e.g. Green-O-Matic), which grow up to 40-50cm and can already be harvested in 8 weeks.

Thanks. That sounds nice. I'm not sure how I'd go about getting those seeds, though. Apparently, it's illegal to buy seeds here or to have them shipped here.

I'm seriously tempted to take a road trip to the Netherlands this summer...

It can produce a lot more hehe - just cultivate often . I honestly don't know much about growing at all, we had to cut ours down just as she was budding because my hubby caught a cop eyeing it from outside. We even thought about getting an indoor grow kit once, there are special things for that where you won't smell anything.

I really understand why people want to grow their own since there are so many pesticides/unknowns in most dealt weed.

I know they have those special tent-like things for growing indoors but the whole set up looks rather complex, with the fan and lights, etc. So I was just thinking about doing it in my garden. But I wonder what would happen if someone inconspicuously planted some out in the middle of a field somewhere here. Not that I plan to do that, but it would be interesting to know what would happen.

Yes, you can indeed simply buy such seeds at e.g. The Greenhouse in Amsterdam. I've brought seeds with before by plane in my hand luggage (I was unaware seeds are also illegal) and never ran into issues. Probably because they're nicely packed and don't smell.

What do the EU have to do with the drug laws of Switzerland? The Europeans famously cannot agree on even the roughest general direction on that topic - Portugal has a very successful drug policy. Spain followed to some extent especially decriminalizing Cannabis with its grower clubs. France polices it like its the 1960s, Luxembourg allows 3 plants or so per adult... Germany decriminalized the possession of small amounts but left it to the regions to define it... which means that in Munich 3g might be too much but in Hamburg 30g pass... the Eastern European countries with the biggest alcohol problems think that cannabis is evil.

The Greenhouse was actually my favorite coffeehouse in Amsterdam, of all the ones that we had visited. It had that nice little cozy room in the back. It also had the best hybrid pre-rolls. And excellent hot chocolate.

Yeah, I can see how seeds would be easy to bring back on a plane. I did actually buy a smell-proof bag on amazon.de that does seem to contain the smell very well, but I’m not sure if I’d risk using it to bring bud on a plane:

Edit: I just realized that I think the place I liked was actually called The Green Place rather than the Greenhouse, but I can’t remember. That whole trip is a little fuzzy in my memory.

Out of the hundreds of methods I have tried (not counting prescriptions) CBD has been the most effective in reducing my symptoms of Crohn's disease. A distant second was raw turmeric.

Is it a cure-all? No. Does it work for certain people in certain circumstances? Yes. There's no need to dismiss something simply because it doesn't work for everyone, all the time.

I dont dismiss it because it doesnt work for everybody. I dismiss it as CBD has simply in repeated scientific studies shown to have no measurable effect over placebos.

Its hyped up by an industry that simply wants to get ready for the decriminalization... so selling whatever is legal right now, but putting supply, manufacturing and distribution in place for when the real stuff gets legal.

Great if it works for you, but 80% of the products are a scam, the other 20% "might" include stuff they were not supposed to... and all of them are sold under false advertisement as "mouthwash", "aroma therapy oil" or similar as they are not legal for consumption.

some years back I attended this https://www.cannatrade.ch/en/program trade fair. This year it will be in Zurich around May. There they exhibit all things related to this industry. Might be the best place to ask questions about own growing, legalities, resources etc.

I recall that the Swiss Consumer magazine “Bon à Savoir” tested a number of legal CBD oil products on the Swiss market.

IIRC something like 7 out of 20 products had lower concentration stated on the packaging. Some identical products sold at different stores had different levels of concentration.

Their conclusion was that people should avoid using the product until such time as they could be assured exactly what they were getting.

For the OP :

Simple version --> try to befriend a "dealer" and start buying. We smell it everywhere in Zurich and nobody cares, including police, from what I saw.

Hard version --> if you have a small "plot of land" in your shared space, you might start growing, or just plant it somewhere in the "fields"
