How wide is the train entrance for strollers?

The Chicco Trio 4 me Stroller is about 10cms wider than the smallest strollers. The manual for it is on the Chicco website. I looked at this stroller and you are essentially paying CHF 500 more for the extra features of a reversible seat and possible bassinet and car seat attachment. It is a lot larger when folded too. IMO it is way too expensive for what it is.

In my opinion, it is not the width you should worry about, it is more about the weight and how easy is it to maneuver, as you will many times have to pick it up "into" the train/bus/tram, because not always you will find low-floor transportation or people willing to help you.

I admit that many a times I went over people's toes because they wouldn't move out of the way no matter how loudly I'd say EXCUSEZ... definitely not an enjoyable experience.

I guess that's why I got my child out of the stroller really soon (at two and a half), got her a scooter instead and that made transportation really easy

It is 54 cm wide (according to this link: http://www.babys-mart.co.uk/itemdetl...co_trio_for_me )

Assuming that's accurate, it will easily fit into any tram or bus in Zürich, and any train (at least all the ones I've been on!)

We found a stroller that is only 7.7 Kg without any baby it it and is 61 cm (24 inch) wide at wheel base... The only negative on this stroller is that the basket underneath is on the smaller side... Does anyone else see a negative? It's a jogging type stroller but you cannot jog with it, it's just the way it was designed. So baby always faces away from you but I think getting it on/off the trains would be fairly easy...unless 61 cm wide is too much...

Only the fact that I wouldn't use it for babies but for toddlers, but I am sure people use it for both..I would prefer 4 wheel vehicle since it holds balance better (think packed trams with people falling over you and you are busy stabilizing the wobbly stroller) and those little wheels could be a trouble on cobble stones, but over all it looks fabulously stylish, love the color, especially. I really do not know if it fits the train door opening and the isle, I will take a measuring tape with me next time I am on the train, if I don't forget.. I love my big basket on the bottom, but if this one is too small, you can get an extra bag (one of those crocheted looking, old timey nets, we had it, bought at Migros) hanging from the handle.

Ok, I finally measured last night, have been carrying the meas. tape with me for weeks now. It was 51,5cm the isle (between the handles, the most narrow spot), slightly over 56 cms at the main door, but this train was the normal local train, not ICN (which is I think more narrow).

talk about above and beyond the call of duty!

Hi Swiss2009

I still swear by my bugaboo and I marvel at it every time I go out. It fits in trams fine but I also love that it fits through the normal aisles at the grocery store, not just the wheelchair/pram aisles. It's also fits through sidewalks whose widths are halved by construction etc. My husband noted that it's designed to be as wide as an average adult so it maneuvers pretty well. It comes with a bassinette too so it's good for baby and it weighs 17 lbs (I think sans baby) and it has 2 all terrain wheels. The one downfall is the price tag, which we justified by a) having someone else buy it b) buying it for our first c) buying it in the states (for half the price!).

One thing to watch out for is also the span of the stroller from the front wheel to the handle bar at the end.

Which leads me to TFK strollers. Please don't get a TFK stroller. I apologize to anyone who has one but I hate these strollers. Why are they so popular??? They are like, the hummers of the stroller world. They are heavy huge, expensive, take up so much room on the tram, have wheels that are bigger than my postpardum butt and, IMO, encourage parents to put kids who should be walking in a stroller (sorry for being judgmental; perhaps your 2 or 3 year old really is very tall). I get that the bike brake on TFKs is cool, maybe even irresistible for a preggo brained mom and they certainly look like great off-road strollers but... I don't see people running with them on hiking trails, I seem them in the CITY!!! Running over my toes.

Sorry for hijacking a bit. I just got off a tram whose pram area was taken over by one of these monsters while 3 other normal strollers squeezed into the tiny space left over.

OMG I'm saying pram now, good going guys.

Good luck, there are great suggestions on this board.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to measure the train for me... I'm sure other people will benefit from this post too!

Thanks!

This stroller is on my short list. I know it's expensive but I kinda reason with the fact that this is like my "car" or "transportation" back in the states -- aside from the hefty price tag, how do you like the storage bag underneath -- it seems kinda small and I'm wondering if there is enough space to store stuff when you are running errands during the day?

Yay! That was also our reasoning too, we don't have a car and we needed something sturdy and well designed to get around wherever we wanted to.

I struggled with the storage bag for a while because it has drawstrings but after a few months, I finally realized that the bag underneath can actually hold quite a bit, it's just getting into the bag that's a pain. And so a few days ago, I learned something from another mom with a bug; she had loosened the drawstrings as much as possible and folded the top part of the bag down along the sides so she could use it as a basket and just toss things in there whenever. It's not the best bag honestly but one great thing about it is that it's easy to remove so when we travel overseas with it, we just leave the bag behind and use backpacks.

Ok, hth!

Bugaboo is so stylish, I love the looks, it seems so tiny too. If we had the cash for it or the time to look for a used one, we would have gotten Bugaboo, fo sho.

I might be able to measure the ICN train next few days, (I carry the measuring tape with me for knitting anyways, when I take the train to my Stich and Bitch get togethers, haha...).

We did have a Chicco Trio, as the main safe, warm and small enough transporter, but for getting out of the house to run get groceries we bought second hand old Chicco with a humongous storage area beneath the basinet, for 50chf. It really floats like a boat, rocks so smoothly, my kid was so happy in it and we fit 3 big paper Migros shopping bags underneath. We live downtown so no car groceries really needed. It was not the most stylish of babycarriages but, hey, one does stop worrying about these things very soon, heh. I make up for the fashion faux pas now, dressing up my little fashionista for groceries, haha. It's more fun now, when she is walking.

Haha, except for ours, if you see a filthy bugaboo in CH, I am probably pushing it so come over and say hi

I will. We can even get together for some filthy baby carriage scrubbing party, weehee..

I just googled the weight of the Bugaboo Cameleon and it's 22 lbs. If yours is 17 lbs are you refering to a different Bugaboo?

The Bugaboo Cameleon is 55.9 cm at it's widest point...and it still fits on the train entrance for you?

The other stroller I am considering but haven't seen in person is the UPPA Vista. It's stylish, has a huge basket underneath, only downfall is it weighs around 24 lbs, without baby. Plus the width of the outer wheels is 63.5 cm which clearly won't work since MusicChick mesured for me...

I'm wondering, has anyone every put/installed a different basket/bag underneath their Bugaboo? It's the only negative on the stroller that really bugs me...

Hi Swiss2009

I am not 100% sure about the weight, I just remember that spec off the top of my head but I do know that the newer model Bug Cameleon comes with foam filled back tires as opposed to air filled ones and the former are heavier (though sturdier). As for the width, yup, I haven't had a problem fitting it on any train/tram/bus. Good luck with your choice!

L.

switzerland2009.

We also have the bugaboo chameleon

I havent had any problem entering any trains even the old trains that run on the IR lines (eg zurich-chur). And also no problems with trams in Zurich.

regarding the basket/bag...it is definitely smaller than other strollers and hard to get to when using the basinette. My solution to the problem was to buy some hooks (easily obtainable and cheap off ebay) which allowed me to hang my handbag and shopping bags off the handle.

try to test run the strollers. I can very easily push and manoeuvre mine with one hand...which believe me you will need to do quite often!!!

We also have another cheap chicco lite foldable stroller which lives in the boot of our car and is also perfect for travelling.

twin stroller, 79cm wide, into the newer trains = no problem. Definition of newer trains = the ones where there are no steps into the train, thus you can just roll in.

Older trains = no chance. Bigger problem is the weight.

TFK - as someone else here mentioned, is ridiculous. 18kg for the twin version?? Sold ours after 6 months and got a baby jogger city mini. 10kg only, and only one-step to fold. It's a dream.
