I found ICE! The recipe lives!

for anyone that might care the Shell station just by the round-a-bout at Mies ( VD ) now sells bagged ice also

I noticed that Aligro ( http://www.aligro.ch/fr/lentreprise/les-marches-aligro/ ) has ice cubes and crushed ice in 5kg bags as well.

The Lausanne store has the cooler after the cash desks. From memory, it was CHF 9.80 per bag regular price (was on special this week because of the beautiful weather ).

So if you live near a store it is one more option.

This will sound like the notorious brown sugar thread

Where do you guys buy ice here in Switzerland? I mean larger quantities like a bag of 5-10kgs?

In the US you see them at every petrol station. Here I have not seen that.

I see ice for sale in white freezers at petrol stations. Especially Shell stations.

Lausanne north BP

Bern west Shell

Solothurn west Shell

Most of the larger petrol stations I have been in have bags of ice outside in a freezer.

Buy it? This time of year I just get it out of the garden.

yup ice trees are definitely more economical, if a bit inconvenient to have to go outdoors to harvest them.

It might help if you list your location other than "earth", then someone may be able to help you

Of course there is ice on earth, the artic circle rings a bell...a few places I can mention in my greater surrounding area (Esso station on rue de Stand, Nyon for example), but if you are in Graubunden it won't help you much.

Landi, but take your credit cards.

I really like how you used the plural: Cards.

Here is copy and paste from another of my posts on ice.

You can buy ice at this places (starts at CHF 1/kg ):

mic-catering.ch Basel and Aesch

eisexpress.ch

eisverkauf.ch

ICEfactory.ch They also have 'cubes' that wont fit in your regular cocktail glass.

kaelte-service.ch Near Luzern, also a good source if you need hundred of pounds even tons. 24h service!

eishandel.ch Around Bodensee, they have a 24h service! No longer in operation.

But if you really have an ice addiction You may order one of these gimmicks .

Check out www.cubitos.ch - they deliver 2kg and 5kg bags of ice (CHF5 and CHF10). Minimum purchase is CHF15. 022 301 91 21

After five years in Switzerland, and nearly twenty years in Europe, I finally indulged my inner 'Yank' and bought an industrial ice maker. After quite a bit of confusion on the part of the supplier, who kept asking for my VAT number before shipping (as he'd only ever supplied restaurants and bars before), my ice machine has arrived and is installed.

20kg of ice on tap, day and night, as my heart desires.

There's a little tiny part of me waving a fist in the sky, chanting "USA! USA! USA!"

Now could someone pass me a watered-down beer, please?

Nice, but they can get quite noisy for an apartment.

WHAT? I can't hear you over the noise of the ice-maker.

Nicely done!

What unit did you get? I had 4 Vogt machines back home---they were lovely monsters!

It's a Hoshizaki.

Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the chanting...

"USA !!! USA !!! USA !!! USA !!!"

I seriously smiled and thought that was the coolest thing (no pun intended) I've seen for a while.

If I had access to that much ice, I would sell my refrigerator

A 2017 update.

Lidl also sells ice in bags.

And from the past posts, more and more gas stations have the bag ice freezer outside the building so you can pick up ice after regular hours or on holidays.

Is there some problem with making your own? Maybe for parties keeping a supply going is hard, but otherwise? I do fine with a couple of ice cube trays and an old ice cream container to put the ice cubes in when they’re done.

The idea is when you are going to a BBQ outside and need to stock a large cooler(s) with lots of ice to keep the beers and white wine cold. Very important.
