If you're an Expat in Switzerland...what do you do?

Mod hat on:

Quite honestly, I'm relieved the way this Thread is going. I didn't say it last night, but it is NOT a good idea to give away too much information on the Internet. Most people find Englîsh Forum when looking for something else. And 'most people' could be a future boss, a co-worker, a partner, a partner from the past, a future partner, a friend, a friend (who will soon be an ex-friend), a competitor in the same field of business...

The posts may sound innocent enough now, but we have enough members asking us to delete things which, when all added together , give their identity, and, with it, remarks or details which they would prefer not to be common knowledge. And Google never forgets whether we delete it on here or not!

..ok FINE..it's bubble gum!

On a more serious note. Wise words Longbyt..thank you for reminding us.

Don't lie. I know Munchkin has placed an order with you for 2 packs of Parisienne Jaune for Sunday.

I'm a secretary, personal assistant, travel agent, cook, cleaner, ironing lady, personal accountant, social secretary, personal stylist, poor translator, sounding board... and trailing spouse

I had a career. Now I do all of the above and faff around on the tinterwebs, play with letterpress and read more than is healthy

I used to be a banker.... I think thats what my mates called me anyway.... "there goes grynch, he's such a ....."

mimi... I've been meaning to talk to you about that.. could you step into my office please?

I don't know what I do, but it's something to do with electronics that requires me to have a lot of computers on my desk (three laptops, and 3 desk tops at the moment, though two of them are turned off). One of the turned off ones is my test-bed for mixing console development, but I'm doing something else at the moment so I don't need that one now.

I also have a lot of motorcycle parts in my office. I used to have more, including an engine sitting on my desk for six months, so I went to use another office. Now I rent two garages, and keep most of the motorcycle stuff in those, but still have some batteries, a battery charger, a rear subframe, a couple seats, part of an exhaust system, and a pair of brake disks lying around, as well as verious small stuff.

Outside my window, I can see a large mountain, and a large rabbit. Actually, I can't see the rabbit. No, she's not invisible, but her enclosure is on the other side of the hedge. But I can see the hedge. My garden is also on the other side of the hedge. The rabbit serves to conveniently convert weeds into fertilizer pellets.

Now it's coffee break, so I will pour a cup and let it get cold before I drink it.

I am a Pharmaceutical Distribution Technician, with responsibilities for sourcing new ingredient suppliers.

[does anyone know of bulk suppliers of talc and/or baking powder, so I can maximise my profits?]

i'm a professional forum poster so spend most of my time on EF and other forums. however, i got a bit burned out so only work part-time now.

I am a superman. Just today, though.

Professional heart breaker, me.

You too huh?

I just find it extremely funny that nobody has said anything about

Homer Simpson + Posting in EF all day = Bad for the rest of you people...

What about changing the question into " what would you do if you would be an expat in Switzerland?"

I would spend my winters skiing, my summers hiking and swimming in these beautiful lakes, eating fondue 3 times a day, earning tons of money....

Well, in real life I am at the same time working and taking care of my lovely children.

In the conditional format: my children are educated in two languages.

In real life, my children end all their French sentences with “ ...,ou bien?”

Swiss expat’s life looks very much like real life

Thanks, Longbyt.

Uhm...Powder sugar? Doesn't one get high on that?

This is true. I don't know any expat who would live the stereotypical rich expat life. In fact, I only heard about this from a nanny who thought that's how expats live when she was explaining why she charges expats more than locals for her nannying services..Just because we speak English we ended up being charged 3x as much.

But, the nature is free here, so....no excuse not to hike and swimm.

Ich auch

I've not seen the "discussion" as yet... expat vs immigrant.

I came to be with my husband and what I do is "housewife" which is a very new role for me. Well, to be honest, it's not so new anymore as I now have 3yrs experience.

So we can gossip about the LiB and Porsch love affair?

bahhh... that's old news... have you heard what they are planning with a bucket of chicken? .... and take my advice... stay away from the cole slaw if you know whats good for you.

& I'm WonderWoman. Are you free tonight for drinks? wink, wink. Or maybe our new resident chef for posh people can make us dinner.
