Have just returned from the Zollamt in Luzerne. If you go there it is at Luzernerstrasse 88, 6014 Littau. Pull into the Co-op car park then look for the stairwell on the corner, the office is on the 1st floor above the Co-op.
Got the 18-20 form which cost 20chf.
Now I have to book the vehicle inspection at the Strassenverkehrsamt.
Do I need Swiss Insurance in place before I have the test or once the car passes? If it fails and say it will cost too much, I don't want the insurance in place. It is UK insured at present.
In Obwalden/Nidwalden you need to have the insurance prepared for it. We got a little slip of paper from our insurance company to take with us to the inspection. I'm sure that you could get your Swiss insurance contingent upon the successful inspection. Talk to your insurance person though.
edit: check the website of your local Strassenverkehrsamt for the list of items required. Even our backwards Kanton has everything listed on their website.
We had to make sure we had insurance in place for when the car passed the test, the insurance give you a sort of cover note, but they don't charge you until the car is actually swiss registered. Our car ended up having a cover note from the insurance for nearly 2 months due to the waiting time for the test.
After speaking to a helpful chap at the Zug Strassenverkehrsamt, it transpires that I don't need Insurance before the inspection only before I get the new plates. Nice.
So, the only thing I am lacking is info from a main UK Jeep Dealer. Can't remember what its called but has all the weights, max speed etc.
Are you sure you didn't get this with the car? Ours was a green card, about 8cms x 10cms big, and was in with the service booklet when we collected the car.
