Importing Vehicles without CoC?

I have a crazy/stupid idea for an adventure, but that would mean importing a vehicle to Switzerland... either from the UK or from India (it's an autorickshaw).

I found someone who imports them to the UK, and gets them registered in the UK... but still no CoC.

Any idea what the cost would be to import one to Switzerland? I reckon it would be "easier" from the UK; but still not easy...

You can import it from anywhere. Taxes and duties from third countries will be the same unless there's a preferential agreement. Registering it for driving is another issue.

Think expensive, double it and add a further 50% just in case

Buy it in the UK, drive it to Switzerland. You've got a year to deal with the registration.

Only if it's part of a move.

Tik Tok?

I also messaged the organisers of the rally due to the sheer stupidity of using this vehicle... So it would get me a free ticket (saving 1500chuffs or so).

When I'm back in CH, I'll spear to a few importers, if it's under 3k or so (it costs 8k in UK and 1k in India), then it would be worth it.

My only worry is that it would get imported, but never become road legal ...

That has me think of a vehicle where exhaust fumes are no consideration, and a 3-way catalysator is an alien concept.

What about starting with a Piaggio Ape that's already registered in Europe?

Hi, just my 2 pence :

Whenever I have a question related to import / export I just call this number

058 467 1515 --> border and customs (If I remember number 4 is for English)

Really nice people.

I actually bought our newer car from Germany, which was imported from here and then reimported it here and I still got the COC thingy.

Considered that - as I would even have a garage in Italy. Sadly, they don't make the passenger edition in Europe - but only the "pickup" one.

CoC goes with the car and forms part of the grey card when the car is imported.
