Failing that, the simple prawn, marie rose and pepper works a charm.
I think I'd have more problems with the kiwi + bread combination than the kiwi + cold cuts.
The thing that bugs me more about sandwiches here is not the random egg or single very thin gherkin but the prevalence of salty butter on everything, even on a salami sandwich. What's with that?
Well, summerrain... I've met a few of the other kind of "Kiwis" I wouldn't mine experiencing as a sandwich but that discussion is for another time.
Regarding the OP though, my favorite sandwich was one we used to get at Arby's is their Pecan Chicken Salad. Sooo yummy! It is (was?) available as either a wrap or a sandwich, both are good.
Try the following Mediterranean Sandwich I made one time for a party:
- Use little sandwich bread (like hotdog ones but smaller)
- Make a Chickpeas purée (boiled chickpeas, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper, mash all together in a mixer)
- Fry chopped onions, add mined meat, salt and cinnamon and fry all some 15 minutes
- Use chickpeas purée on the bread first, add the minced meat then use chopped parsley on the top
Delicious!
TAE
White bread with ham, turkey, bacon and cheese. Dip it in egg and fry it like French Toast. Sprinkle a bit of powdered sugar and serve with jam or maple syrup.
It is definitely the mayo
This is hummus bil awarma and is a Levant staple.
For any of you who have spent time in Montreal...the smoked meat piled high is a thing of beauty!
Fried eggs, gherkins...I thought the Earl of Sandwich left Britain to make REAL sandwiches in North America

And next to it, at the bar, they make great roast beef sandwiches, and lax sandwiches. Best I have had in "Der Schwweiz" and I am a sandwich lover in California. Oops..not sure if what I eat are sandwiches, according to those funny people who live on those islands west of France...

1: Put prebaked Cereal baguettes from coop in the oven and heat them, till they start getting crusty
2: Slice it open vertically in the full length
3: Apply a layer of sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, add cocktail sauce.
4: Finish it off with a few slices of bacon and cheese, and eat it, while it is hot
