Insect Nets on exterior windows

Five years ago I imported some black nylon tulle fabric from Wally World, along with 3M's strongest high-temp sticky velcro-style (hook-side only) tape. Stuck the hook tape onto the old wooden frames at This Old House...the tulle hooks into the tape like a charm and stays for good. I covered every window, and the screen is barely visible; all for about $10--a fraction of that Tesa stuff!

The french door in the old kitchen (which we go in and out of many times daily) has a magnetic-closing net (closes automatically behind you) that hangs from velcro strips and comes down in late fall; the tape stays in place to use the next year.

Ali express sell DIY insect screen kits and they come with the tape/velcro strips, https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesa...ct-screen.html

I did check aliexpress out of curiosity for some products, but for CH they do have higher prices ... so I think the best-buy solution is to go to Hornbach Germany and get everything from there ( depending on the canton where you live, offcourse ).

Will do this probably this week and let you guys know of what solution I've found there.

PS : I have the regular plastic / aluminium white windows , only the shutters are made of wood.

Maybe not very helpful right now, but for custom made, I always got mine done in Jan/February. You'll get a discount in the winter months...

Thanks for the reminder. We've got a couple that need replacing because of the cats standing up at the window to get a better look at something interesting outside.

Hornbach sell it.

Tried the Tesa DIY option and am now returning them, they won't work with my window setup. Followed the Rutschmann link from this thread and received a quick-quote for almost 1200 CHF for 3 average sized windows (FYI):

The low price ones - you're such a cheapskate!

I'd hate to think what the normal price ones are.

I’m avoiding China, to the extent that is possible. Recent news has been very disturbing.

Lidl had some last week too. Not in a roll but in pretty large sheets which you could cut to size. One box was just a few francs and enough for four of our windows.

Anyway, the point of this post. Here's a tip I discovered:

I fitted it to our framed screens (which clip in and out of the windows). The netting is held in place by some flexible plastic cord around the edge which is quite painful on the fingers to squash back into place and laborious too.

Looking for an easier and faster way to do this, I discovered that a wooden kitchen rolling pin - especially the larger diameter ones with a wooden spindle is perfect for rolling along the cord to push it back in.

It only took five minutes to replace a screen.

I ordered some from NL on Amazon.de. They are for 100x130 cm windows, so fit our big old windows just great. You cut the aluminum frame to size, then put it together with plastic angles. We measured and cut to fit snugly into our wooden frames, so no attachment necessary. They even included a spline-setting tool, so no need for a rolling pin! The screen material is charcoal and almost invisible. Great value for about 20 euro each.

As a final follow up:

Went to Hornbach Germany ( the one near Basel ) --> and before someone says that it's not worth the gas money or time --> we made a day out of it, by also visiting Strasbourg.

We bought for all windows the small box ( 1.25 euros each ) and the big one for the balcony door ( 14 or 15 euros ).

Also took a picture of them "mounted", sorry for the messy photo.

Am curious if they will last this summer thou, but this was a really cheap solution
