But it requires I pay for every accompanied person. Since I don’t have a fixed friend who is available, I’ll probably ask any one that is free during the weekends.
To avoid this fee, I plan to ask them to rent the car, and I drive with my friend sitting next to me.
Question:
In this case, if I get into an accident, what will happen to me about the insurance? Or no insurance will be covered?
As I remember, Mobility allows that Member A can book and Member B can drive.
If Member A and Member B live under the same roof and have linked subscriptions, then Member B can drive a car rented by member A even if member A is not there
If Member A and Member B do not live under the same roof then Member B can only drive with Member A in the vehicle.
Check what it says with regards to temporary license.
I would guess, unless there’s something in their terms and conditions about learner drivers being able to drive the car the way you suggest, that no, their insurance would not cover you since you broke the terms of the agreement so any costs for repairs/injuries would be down to you.
4.B.
Mobility customers living in the same household can form part of a
‚rental start group‘, which enables them to use their personal
Mobility Card to make use of the reservations made by other
members of the same group. There is no need for the person
making the original reservation to travel along. Mobility customers
not part of a ‚rental start group‘ may drive a Mobility vehicle provi-
ded that the person making the reservation is travelling along. Non-
Mobility customers may not drive under any circumstances a
Mobility vehicle (cf. section 5 lit. b).
15D
Learner drivers are allowed to drive Mobility vehicles, provided that
the person accompanying the learner driver also has an active
Mobility subscription and meets the statutory requirements
(exception subscription Click & Drive cf. section 17 and business
subscription with transferable Mobility Card cf. section 16 b). The
customer is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is licensed for
practice drives in accordance with the legal requirements. Mobility
excludes all liability for any damage or claims in connection with
the use of Mobility vehicles for practice drives.
You pay Fr.49 for a mobility learner permit for 6 months. This gives you insurance cover, not sure how much.
You cannot rent a car with this learner permit. A full mobility member with a full licence has to rent the car and accompany you, cost is fr.59 for 6 months. Insurance is extra, but maybe not needed if your friend won't drive. Each friend you want to drive with has to join and pay fr.59 unfortunately!
Have you checked the insurance? As far as I have heard, Mobility has quite a high self-pay portion if you have an accident. You can reduce this by paying an additional premium.
Thank you! This is excellent advice, both for this specific situation and for phone-calls in general: always put it in writing, to confirm what was agreed on the phone, and number the points. OP, it's your way of generating proof of what was said. If there were any misunderstandings, they are likely to reply saying "yes to point 1" but "no, point 2 doesn't work like that".
Absolutely this. Mobility likes calling on the phone which I hate as then its a matter of "he said-she said" - I basically never pick up when they call.
