Insurance company Groupe Mutuel closing our online account

Rental properties.

Well they are cash rich and it makes sense to invest their funds in real estate. You may know that Swiss law under the Federal Health Insurance Act (KVG/LAMal) mandates that all insurers offer standardized basic health insurance (Grundversicherung) to everyone without refusal based on age, sex, or health status. Profits from basic insurance premiums are explicitly banned; any surplus must go into reserves or be returned to policyholders via premium rebates, as overseen by the Federal Office of Public Health

They need to make profits another way.

Haha

There is also a 3rd option till Sept 2028.

There is no requirement for them to have an online presence though. The OPs complaint is that they have deactivated his online account with them because he has opted to receive paper bills.
He can’t have his cake and eat it, he requested paper and that’s exactly what he’s got.

They could still keep the online account open in the case that I want to send docs to them or to check payments, etc etc.

They don’t want the hassle of sending you the bills by post. On average I get at least four bills a month from them. One each for the premium and one each for any 10% co-pay. This is likely above average but also likely not unusual.

Why not agree to pay your premiums for the year upfront and have all bills sent to directly to you for full payment and for you to reclaim your 90%?

Or spend a few minutes with your bank learning how to use ebill. You actually might prefer it.

At the other end of the stick we get our health insurance stuff via ebills, but CSS still send us paper copies for anything to do with me and also for hubby once he’s passed his franchise and gets everything paid by CSS. I can sort of understand his since there’s nothing to pay on them, but they could be done as ebills too and why they send paper copies for my stuff when they’re also ebills I don’t know. Only thing I can think of is it’s somehow linked to husband being the ā€œmainā€ account since the accompanying letter is always addressed to him.

Are you certain those ā€œpaidā€ bills are coming from the insurance company? Mine come from the service provider and actually are a bit of a pain as they need to be scanned.

Some providers send me an e-mail saying I can download a .pdf, and then require dual-factor authentication. Which is also a pain if I am out and about.

Yes, they come direct from CSS.

You generally get 90 days to download them so as long as you don’t forget you can do them at your own convenience.
I think we get a good 90% of them that way these days, there are only a couple of ā€˜old school’ doctors who still send paper copies.
