Is C permit worth it?

Depends on the canton. We (C permits) moved from OW where it was payable up to a year later, to VS where you actually pay in advance, based on an estimate from last years’ figures.

Hit us quite hard when we’d just bought the new place and not sold the old one yet, as we effectively had to pay two and a half years worth of taxes within the first few months of moving there. Tight belts for a short while.

I never said if I was or wasn’t an EU citizen, just because I lived in the UK doesn’t automatically mean I’m British. So, to clarify I am an EU citizen.

I can imagine…!!

You’ve wasted everyone’s time trying to guess what your status is.

Think of permits as achievement levels in the great “Wer wird Schwiizer” game. A C Permit gets you that bit closer.

Apologies that I wasted your time, although I didn’t have to reply if you thought it was a total waste for you.

Pity about the misunderstanding. I guess that as you gave us so much information in your first post, we expected that you would have added that you were EU that being the case.
Trouble is, that we‘ve seen this all before. Relevant information omitted.
At a time when we had many Americans wanting to come to Switzerland to get jobs, we had a post from yet another American guy, bursting with enthusiasm about fulfilling his dream.
The more helpful members explained the many hurdles adding relevant official links; mentioning problems with getting a Bank Account, difficulties with Work Permit and residence permits, finding accommodation, complications with learning the local language etc.
The reply from the guy was, shall we say, a surprise.
If I remember correctly, he told us he was Swiss, had a uncle here who had a job lined up for him plus a flat, he spoke Swiss German…
In a way it was quite funny but it had really wasted quite a bit of time. It is not surprising that members become frustrated by yet another case of being told only part of the story.
