Is the Merc SLK 200 a 'girls car'?

i'm gonna presume you don't really want an answer to that

only really really insecure people give a toss what other people think about what car they drive, how they dress, where they live etc

if you like the car, buy it

seriously. the slk 250 was once one of my favourite cars.

but i wouldn't choose a man that drove one.

it is a girls car - high maintenance...

if you are choosing a car to get a girl, think about the kind of girl you want.

Do you want something classy, something practical, something built like a brick shlt house, something delicate...

and think about what might happen the first time you drive each other around the bend.

Best to turn up on your first date in a Fiat 500. Then you'll really know what she thinks of you.

The other train of thought is of course - the size of a mans car is inversely proportional to... god, what was it again?

*sigh*....

and old boss of mine used to have an austin healey.

*deeper sigh*

my sister had an MG.. it just says your bwitish.

if your buying a car to impress a woman then your already onto a loser

most woman couldn't give a toss what you drive, those that do probably wouldn't be impressed by what you think they would be

and any woman that turns there nose up at you because you drive x,y or z has given you a lucky escape

Austin Healey almost made the list of cars that are acceptable - but the problem is that people think you are a bit of a cad or bounder. And will forever be leaving your wallet somewhere and getting someone else to pick up the tab.

A friend has an original factory racing 3000 - which forms part of his automotive based pension.

In my opinion guys with big expensive cars buy them to compensate what's lacking in their trousers.

Unless it requires actual specific genitalia to operate, it's simply a car.

what she said

i like motorbikes

mate, THAT is something i'd REALLY like to see!

You like pushing things and plenty of fresh air

Was out all day ... thanks for all the replies guys n gals - esp Dodgyken.

The reason I put up the question is that back home in India (where i lived till 4 years ago) it is certainly not considered a girls car. I looked at some US SLK forums - and most owners of the R171 (SLK200) seemed to be men. Also, my budget is limited by the insurance claim I got on my old car which was 'totalled' a few months ago - so AMG / Jaguar / MAserati etc etc are beyond my means.

This whole issue came up because the seller - a woman BTW - asked me "Don't you think it is a bit feminine?" not a marketing managers dream seller .

Any way, to me the fact that it is currently used by a woman makes me feel that it will have been used 'delicately'. The fact that it is a Merc made in DE implies well built / reliable (i have read mixed reviews abt high maintenance). The fuss free hard top makes it an 'all year round vehicle'.

Last but not the least, now that there's just the two of us - my son and I - we don't really need a family car.

Plus it's in white - a colour I've always wanted on my cars, but was tooo impractical in India

I go to see the car this Friday - hope it works out.

Enjoy the drive

keep in mind that if it is a feminin choice that it is probably a tasty choice !!

The type of woman who want a mink in the closet, a tiger in the bed, a jaguar in the garage and a jackass to pay the bills.

I once had an MG Metro ...... need I say more?

Thats because women don't tend to run or frequent car forums, regardless of whether they like the cars or not. In the same way that I like cakes, but I'm not on any baking forums

Well made point taken - Castro

thx for the encouragement, Aurelie.

In any case, i've always been a bit of an 'enfant terrible' - so i'll just follow my heart. And yes, considering the 'size' of the car, atleast i wont face comments re 'phallic complexes'

Perhaps so... MrVertigo, however my 'conservative business family from India' roots will take care of that!! so no worries.

PLUS.. I'm not buying a Jag, so that's something :-)

If you really want a car to impress others, then it is worthwhile paying some attention to the interior. Here are some fine examples. Be warned though, you can over do it and leave an impression behind that it not entirely positive.
