So between contracts I land on RAV for few months (0-6 months so far) what I want to eliminate. In the last 8 years I was hired by 6 different clients through different swiss agencies and I myself could not find clients directly so far.
I can't choose which project I work on and I am happy to have any contract which pays better then a perment job and matches with my core skills. I like contracting because I can get some new experience with a specific technology or product, much more than I could in the past in my "permanent" jobs (where I just was sold as a contactor anyway and got a much lower pay and no career/technology advancement at all).
Between contracts, to avoid RAV, I would be really happy to take any job in max 60-80% part time. That would reduce the pressure of being 100% unemployed and I could probably get real work experience in a slightly new field or at least upskilling my expertise. My experience is that employers (does not matter if contract or permanent) accept only real (local preferred) work experience and with the constant changes of IT, I feel myself always junior and catch of 22 (no job without work experience, and some bootcamp course or certification would not replace the work experience)
Contactors, can you please answer my questions?
1) How can I get any "gap filler" work between contacts in order to get new work experience in my field (upskilling or slighlty new field)? Such job in max 70-80% workload would allow me to sign off from RAV and still have enough time to enjoy life and find my next project. I do not care if I can't save anything for a while, but I have to cover at least my family costs here.
Permanent jobs are reluctant to hire me because of my strong contracting past and intention of future contracting. I am honest with them and do not want to hide it. I am rather looking for a win-win case, e.g. trying to convince permanent jobs to take me as contractor till they find their dream permanent employee, with no success yet. Maybe I am just old, but I am not interested in any company itself anymore, but only in the task, salary and the employer independent technology skills. The only appreciation out of my job is the hourly fee I get and unfortunately this has become my only driver too regarding to work. This way at least I can feel a little bit that I work for myself.
I am not sure if I would be considered for permanent jobs later if I am already at the end of RAV eligibilty... I do not think so. The pressure of chasing new work experiences, the high living costs with a family, fear of not having any job at 50+ (especially applicable for permanent jobs) forces me to chase the contract jobs and put as much aside as much I can and find out a plan B once contracting totally dries up.
2) After consulting with RAV, they will not accept a much lower paying trainee job as "Zwischenverdienst" (the chance is find such is slim anyway, due to same reason as for permanent jobs). No RAV support at all for getting paid work experience, even if that is their interest too.
3) What a job coach from RAV recently suggested, to try to get remote jobs as "gap filling" worldwide, using a swiss payroll company. But according to RAV PB, they would not accept as a "Zwischenverdienst" either, working for peanuts for Indian companies from Swtizerland... so I need a remote job which pays near swiss hourly fee. Or maybe maximum 40-40% workload, so due to the limited pensum it can be maybe accepted as "Zwischenverdienst"? Of course I would have to keep applying for better paying jobs, but at least I could have chance to new work experience.
How can I find remote only and part time jobs worldwide, with not much lower pay than in Switzerland? I think, this "advice" from the coach is just not feasable: if the job is fully remote, than the salary is adjusted to a low cost country. Any experience in working remote in the above model? How to find such opportunity? Ideally a remote consulting company where I always can back to part time, between projects?
