You need to blend in with the team (alcohol helps) pretend that your their best pal and then extract info and run!
I definitely agree with your plan of getting the whole database easily accessible and maintainable... In the end getting the developers to do it themselves saves them time and effort too... That way they would have us on their backs a whole lot less to boot.
Tho it's too far away from home for me, unfortunately. So, unless the pay is mind-blowing, commuting 3 hrs a day is just not fun enough
I hope you find someone for the jobs soon, though.
Best market would anyway be one where we agents all knew all the leads and relied on the best candidates wanting to be represented by the agency which provided the best service levels across the board to win the business, thus meaning that those who don't treat people well and place little importance on ethics and honesty would simply fade away, IMHO that is!
Let me know if the agency posting gets in the way, I've been here for a while and have been pretty quiet on that front, only recently started posting on this topic in earnest to try to contribute a bit more to the Forum.
Don't want to be an unwelcome intruder on an excellent site, although I think my recruitment insight and advice is more useful than my usual football related battles with hugh_abu!
PS - You will have noticed we've had it posted since the 27th, as in before this thread started....
3 hour commutes are for the UK so, if it were me, even mind-blowing pay wouldn't swing it!
Thanks, me too. It isn't my field, pharma I mean, a colleague is dealing with, in case anyone does happen to be keen.....nudge nudge wink wink!
It certainly wouldn't hurt to get in touch with them and say now that you'll be available in six months . Give it a go, aye? I was told that Roche is looking to expand more then too. The huge office expansions etc there definitely give the impression that their word on that is true...
Its starting to get to that time where I will be putting some feelers out in the Swiss job market for early next year so thanks for the headsup and congrats on your new position.
For external staff you are required to go through an agency, not direct to Roche.... Perhaps BoyD can help?.... though it seems BoyD's site only mentioned the Basel positions. Either way I'm sure he'd appreciate the % fee from successfully recruiting you
Thanks again. My wife is a Swiss national which might make things a bit easier.
Started the new job on monday and all is going well. It's also a big learning curve, but hey, you get that.
OK, inside word: The tech writing dept still requires 3 new staff. We're having trouble finding people with both lab experience and tech writing experience so, if that's you, give Hays a call. Otherwise people with tech writing experience are getting preference.
We've had three applicants that I've seen and 1 or possibly 2 of them may have a chance depending on how the manager sees it. So if you're keen, it would pay not to fanny about
75CHF per hour. Nicht schlecht .
I'd get my ar$e in to gear though... the boss is looking serioulsy at 2 applicants from the UK.
the technical writer job position is still open in Basel Roche?
I checked www.hays.ch but it doesn't any opening at Roche, Basel .
Please, let me know asap. Writing in English, right?
Thanks -
--Paul
Not sure about the Basel branch... Couldn't hurt to enquire though right?
Puddy
I enquire through www.hays.ch and roche.com.
Noop - all taken or gone - if not enquire internally ...
Thanks though -

I am an experienced tech writer and I am looking for work! I have recently become self-employed in Switzerland. In Chicago I was self-employed as tech writer for over 10 years and love the work.
Can you please tell more about the Roche opportunity and where to apply?
I just joined the English Forum so I could reply to you.
thanks!
You're welcome to send your CV to me if you like. I can put it directly in the hands of my boss. We are still one writer short. There was talk that we wouldn't bother getting another, but if you're really good, they would definitely look at you.
I think the position would be permanent though, so if you're freelance and like it that way it might not be worth it. Roche removed their advert with Hays recruitment some months ago.
PM me with your CV and cover letter, if you're still interested.
Cheers
Puddy
Thank you for your response!
My freelancing career was launched because a good temp opportunity came my way at the very moment I wanted to move back into writing. I don't necessarily prefer freelance. So I'll forward my CV to you (need to update a few details) and hopefully I will look really good.
Thanks again!
