Juicer foam

You made me very sad Richdog I thought I found the perfect juicer but on the other hand there are quite positive reviews! Hmmmm

It looks amazing, but the user reviews seem to question durability, easy of juicing leafy greens, and the juice apparently comes out separated just like the centrifugal juicers.

While I like the idea of a slow juicer, there is a certain coolness factor to sticking fruits and vegetables into what sounds and looks like a jet engine though.

Amazon is one of the sites that gives a good representation of a product once it gets enough reviews, and those 1*'s all seem to revolve around common themes so can't be discounted. Looked great on the promo vid though!

Ok. I'm reading now. But if you look at the dates all the 1* reviews are from 2010. I'll check what the problems they had were and if it've been fixed. I really don't want to research 100 juicers! lol.

I have the Omega Vert 350 juicer, which is the follow up model of the Omega Vert 330.

The Omega Vert 330 is the identical juicer like the Hurom, made in the same fabric.

The 330 had a lot of bad reviews due to the filter was not durable, the 350 was then introduced with a more stable filter.

I assume the Hurom uses still the same filter like the Omega Vert 330, so for this reasons has bad reviews.

I am super happy with the Omega 350 and been using it over a year. If you want to use the juicer mostly for green juices though, then I wouldn't recommend it as leafy greens get stuck in the auger... I use it mostly for vegetables juices

hth,

Thanks for that. There seem to be a lot of bad reviews about the filter. I imagine they also changed the filter on the Huron.

Anyway, I think we've hijacked poor Chip's thread. Should we open a new one on juicer recommendations?

if you're feeling lazy get the Philips HR1861 centrifugal juicer, it's a proven performer and very quick to use and clean. In my experience having owned a slow masticating juicer they are more hassle than they are worth. When you use it daily then it soon becomes a chore to have any extra waiting or cleaning time.

Ridiculous amount of good reviews too:

I like mine.

I sure am...... It was a nice lil video.

I'll look at the Philips model as well.

You took the words out of my mouth! A little of this goes a long way. Only a few grams per ton of juice should be enough. It works a treat.

The only low tech way that I know of that MIGHT work is to spray a bit of pure ethanol (rubbing alcohol?) onto the top of the juice. If the stuff which is stabilizing the foam (protein?, pectin?) is not too high powered that should knock it back instantly.

for the foam i just use a knife to skim it off or use a sieve.

in terms of juicers, i have a champion- it's a bit old now, i received it as a present 5 years ago, but it stills runs amazingly. it's pretty fast to juice, i think clean up is pretty easy and i can juice greens easily if i cut them and alternate with solid veggies like carrots or cucumbers.

i was thinking of getting a new juicer when we came here due to the difference in plugs, etc. but we use a convertor and i don't think i could part with it after all. i know quite a few people with the same juicer and they are all as happy as i am

Which one do you have?

Champion Commercial Juicer G5-PG-710 - WHITE MODEL

not beautiful but i use it at least once a day and it works for me.

try a few ml of Fairy Liquid. That should do it.

Ethanol is fine to consume, isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) is poisonous.

The Champion isn't the fanciest juicer out there but is simple and solid as heck. It is also great for nut butters and frozen treats (just freeze whatever you want and run it through- chocolate rice milk used to be a favorite of mine).

Just tried this and I think it didn't work as it seemed to foam even more and made the taste a bit funny. How much do I need to add?

Not too much . Actually very little. Both the stuff in juice & Fairy liquid make perfectly good foams, but for reasons that I won't bore you with, their mixtures can be useless.
