Key copying....what's a reasonable price?

Yeah, it's the Basque quarter.

Another major rip off is the copying of car keys. The price runs sometimes to hundreds of Francs here, but about half that when copied in London.

The mechanical key is not expensive, but most car keys also need to have the electronic code copied as well, and this is where the minimum price is jacked up to around Fr 80,-- by a Mr Minit for a Renault Twingo key!

Might be cheaper to buy a 3D printer and do it yourself. Check out Digitec.

Maybe, the high price, here, for key copying, is like paying a guarantee that they don't make an additional copy for themselves ........ for later.

Cause people who rip people off never steal from people.

I had two kaba keys done in Geneva at a little independent shop, the old guy said one of them had the most holes he'd ever seen and it took him nearly 30 mins to copy it.

15chf for both and no questions about my ownership certificate!

Details of the shop please?

OH had delightful Surprise, an Exception, OH had the car in for some minor problem when the mechanic suggested OH get an extra key/fob with code for about half any price OH had researched in UK.

Other surprise, another time, was the low cost of garage loan car, only charged for part day instead of whole day for the 2nd day.

Paid normal rates for mechanical work, but nice to get the extras at a bargain, so did not feel ripped off in any way, the opposite & work well done.

Tram 12 - Stop Peillonnex (99% sure it's that one)

There's a Lidl or Aldi right by the tram stop in a little center. Just inside there's a tabac, cafe and the key place. Usual setup that sells batteries and watch straps and fixes shoes, I don't know the name.

There was a price list up on the wall but the old boy just seemed to make up the prices, a few people popped in while i was there.

Thanks i will have a look. Did you have the key cut recently? Mine is Keso with a number stamped on it so lets hope is copiable. And lets hope that the guy is still there!
