Notice period depends on how long you have been there. Above 5 years means 6 months min. You can invoke hardship if you cannot find something comparable although you will have to accept somewhat smaller and/or somewhat pricier. Also, often “Eigenbedarf” is announced verbally to scare tenant and make them run away before any termination is ever formally sent.
You can drag this out for long. If you want and are ready ro deal with the unpleasentries. I understand that this might not be the case.
That’s no problem but then you shouldn’t have written at all as your claim was false. Slammer lives in Germany.
If he lived there 6 years he was supposed to be given 4 months.
There was nothing false in my post, I based it on the info in the link posted by 3Wishes which didn’t require me to translate anything.
I said at least 5 months which is not wrong.
I am well aware that Slammer lives in Germany, I was the one who pointed it out to you as I had actually read Slammer’s posts so knew all the relevant information and didn’t make posts based on guesses and assumptions.
The scammers, never too far from the surface, are coming out of the woodwork now. Looks like they have found out that I am in the market.
Last one was for a flat, not too far away and to a reasonable price, but it sounded too good to be true and they wanted a 350 Euro deposit for a viewing.
The other one was that they would send me the address but only if I sent my bank details and a Vollmacht… (power of attorney..?)
I have heard of agencies requesting a 50 Euro deposit for a viewing, especially in Munich directly, but they can go and fick right off.
Could you put the word out to coworkers or other contacts that you need a new place to stay? It might not be your cup of tea and you may have no intention of attending services, but if you say that you’re a Brit (?) and explain your predicament and the lack of success via ads/estate agents, you could ask English-speaking churches in Munich if they know of anyone with a place to rent or sell in Bavaria. A non-exhaustive list (these seem more mainstream):
What crossed my mind is that your landlord probably lives in that town for ever. He might have information as well. Plus he could tell them what a wonderful tenant you are. You are, right?
After all, the only reason he makes you leave is because his kid needs the space.
Well, not really the church type, I tend to ignite when I cross the threshold.
Even these communities have to struggle to find places for even their own staff, in fact even the services have trouble finding places for their staff. Institutions like police and justice department have built housing for their staff but even then it is a drop on a hot stone.
Went for a viewing this afternoon in Landsberg. nice place, well located within ten minutes of the centre, near the Autobahn and the price is in my bracket.
So I have said I would like it and now we wait and see.
Actually they only moved in a few months before I did. It is a double house and they bought one side for 560.000, six years ago. Last autumn the other, totally identical side was sold for a cool 840.000 Euros.
In this street alone there are five empty houses slowly rotting away and two parcelles of land waiting to be built on and the prices keep going up and up and up.
I know and believe it or not it helps a lot, just the ability to rant with friends is something I dont do with the family knowing that they will worry, then I will worry that they are worrying.
I must have had a rapport with the guy renting the place out. He was a bit stand-offish at first and repeated that this is a place for one person, not four or five… ONE!
At first I did not understand but it seems that he has trouble with the town by refusing to rent to Ukraine and African refugees even though he has been offered almost three times the maximum amount from out of the local rent catalogue.
And now I have an inlinking as to why flats are even rarer than usual.
