knee replacement

Yep, I did for my shoulder but not for my knee.

... so obviously not a knee replacement, for which you are relatively young. Although, some people think having them done earlier (late 50s for example) might improve quality of life.

such an operation should only be done as the very last alternative when everything else has failed. Its not exactly like pulling a tooth out

As did I, but not for a knee.

But I think the contrast material is put into a vein and goes through the whole body

ACL Surgery and meniscus scrape 2003

Fast forward July 2020; never too late to start using a push scooter, great fun on descents.

X-ray last Friday (doctors surgery) and MRI (radiology clinic) this coming Tuesday.

Anyone any experience of needle surgery on knees/meniscus

I do but it was a long time ago.

Nope, torn ACL and LCL, fractured patella.

Aparently ligament surgery is generally only done in young athletic types, it's often less successful in older folks so hard to justify.

But on the plus side, I'm amassing quite the collection of stylish walking sticks.

During the time between the accident and finally getting the MRI done I likely did more damage - hence my advice to Omtatsat to push for further investigation.

ah awful - and hope it gets better. OH did the same years back- and it was not repaired- lots of hard work and physio and he did get back his mobility and strength- so good luck.

But nothing to do with knee replacement.

Seems a bit like jumping the gun to decide you need an x-ray without first consulting a professional. I started having quite severe knee pain several years ago and was thinking it might be cartilage, I might need an MRI, or surgery, etc. etc., My mind really got carried away with worse-case scenarios.

Went to the sports doctor, he looked at where I had pain and swelling in my knee and diagnosed the problem very quickly: my right leg is in fact slightly crooked. If you draw a straight line from my hip to my ankle the knee is well on the inside of this line, and doing sports that involve a lot of knee bending puts a lot of stress and strain in places where the knee and kneecap normally shouldn't have it. No x-ray, no MRI, no surgery. Just a prescription for some quite bulky custom orthotics (needed to buy larger shoes), and a bit of tape to keep my kneecap in the right place. I have been pain-free ever since. I hope your problems are something as easily fixable as this.
