Laughing telephone

How dumb is society becoming.

Plus Ƨa change… (since 1935 anyway).

Don’t have nightmares, kids.

Eee by GUM! Thatā€˜s a blast from the past, I found them scaryas a kid and broke into a sweat listening to that Clip.

Me as well, I hated the laughing man at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. We used to be taken there on holiday in the 60s when I was a child.

Works though, it’s almost impossible to not at least smile when that’s going in the background.

Wakes week, or just ā€žI do Like to be beside thr seasideā€œI did enjoy the Blackpool Rock though…
And the Cockles and whelks in vinegar and the perriwinkles that you ate with a pin.
Fish ā€šn Chips washed down with dandelion and burdock or ice cold sasparella.
Fishing Off the Pier where Young Slammer caught a seagull on the First cast.

I used to love that when I was a kid and we went to Blackpool pleasure beach which we did pretty much every year at some point.

We had Honley feast week which was in September some time and everyone had a week off except for the schools so the workers with kids couldn’t go anywhere even if they wanted to.

Sarsperalla in the UK? I always thought of it as a US-only thing, never even heard of it as a kid (from the 1960s). Dandelion and Burdock all the way!

Sarsaparilla (in the US truncated to ā€œsass-par-illaā€) is made from sassafras, same as root beer. My sister made some once in her garage, and the bottles all blew their corks. It was very tasty, though.

Used to be able to get sasparella chews from Blackburn market.
I am going to have to look into making sasparella.

Honley…? The one near Netherthong?

That’s the one.

There was a sassperella canned soft drink on the UK market in the UK back in the 70s when I was in my mid teens, it was called Sass. It was around about the same time as Cresta. I also remember McDonalds in London selling root beer in the 80s, think they did away with it in the 90s.

I think basically because it tasted disgusting.

Lol, I was disappointed as I liked it, but I doubt I’d want to drink it now

Yes, I recall root beer being a thing for short while, as you say it was disgusting. But never came across Sass.

Am I the only one who enjoys Kvass and cream soda?

Strangely enough I have been watching a few nostslgic videos on YouTube of Blackburn and Blackpool, easy to find and they do get the memories working.
