Two months ago our landlord changed our system from the "have your own day" system to "write your name down" without informing anyone first. The first we knew about it was the forms and pencil on a string were pinned up on the door of the laundry room 2 months ago.
It's completely fallen on it's bum because absolutely NO-ONE in the building has filled it in and everyone has carried on exactly as before, i.e. washing when they want to.
It's quite a nice washing "atmosphere" because everyone in the building has really busy jobs and two of the flats have kids, so everyone is really tolerant to each other. We had one "stickler for the rules" move in once but we soon got them into the wash-whenever-it's-free mindset.
Maybe so but if you deciede to wash on a sunday in the block i live in i would have your guts for garters....... I can hear the washing machine in my apartment very clearly and yes i understand people need to was but god can we not have sunday free....(No i am not swiss)......
I also work but find time to wash my thinks (and i have children) during the week, yes i am tired but it gets done.....
I don't see why everyone should be restricted just because of a defective washing machine, can it really be making that much noise? My bedroom is right over the washroom and I don't hear a thing. Even if I did it wouldn't bother me too much as long as it wasn't going on through the night. Maybe there should be separate buildings for the "Keep Sunday Special" campaign where dropping a pin would be an offence punishable by eviction. That way the rest of us can do what we want to do in our free time.
Depends on the type of building. Our building, unfortunately, ain't that soundproof and we can hear neighbours making "Sunday morning don't have to rush out of bed" noises whilst we are politely sharing a pot of tea with the in-laws. Cough-cough, fine weather we're having, eh?
Come to think of it, a washing machine rattle would be more welcome...
Sandgrounder calls that cheeky; I'd call it theft. I would have definitely pulled the badge as a result of her not answering the door.
As for washing on Sunday, I can if I want to, but try and avoid it.
Let's face it, Sunday is the one day in the week when there are no jackhammers / drills / grinders going and no shopping crowds in the street and no noise from the bar downstairs. I say let's keep it as peaceful as we can.
I came upon this post because we've just arrived to Switzerland this past Saturday and I'm trying to figure out the Swiss laundry system.
When we lived in Sweden many years ago, our apartment building had a laundry that was free-of-charge. Yesterday, I bought my Swiss laundry card for 30 CHF, but since the apartment manager only spoke French. I'm not sure how to use the card, furthermore, I didn't I see a sign up sheet for booking the washer and dryer.
Can anyone tell me what the numbers 1 and 2 on a box over the washer mean. I notice a slot, so I'm sure this is where I place the card. Also, can someone tell me a few French words I need to ask the apartment manager about the washroom schedule?
Find me one, please find me one. I am looking for an appartment (3 bedrooms) own washer and dryer, and lots of foreigners and younger people who do not complain. That sounds like a wonderful dream. Just imagine life without complaints from others,,nice.
The good thing about me is, when I sleep I sleep, noices do not bother me too much, unless it is now a rock band playing next to my bedroom window, but a washing machine or dishwasher running while I sleep, that will not interfere with my deep wonderful sleep, the washer is not in the bedroom, right? If you work hard all day, you are tired and you sleep at night. That is maybe why older people complain, they sleep all day, and at night they lay awake listening to all the strange noices around them. and get all
There are various types of these boxes but I would imagine that the 1 and 2 relate to the washing machines and dryers. look for a label on the machine or the power point for the machine.
On the system in my apartment block you select the washer (1 or 2) that you have your laundry in then stick your card in. A couple of francs will be deducted from the card and the washer will start. When you are finished you stick your card in again (you might have to push a button) and the balance remaining will be credited back onto your card.
Someone left their crap in the washing machine overnight, and waited until 12:30 to take it out, I didn't want to move stuff in the washing machine (I'll take stuff from the dryer, but it used to seem really rude to remove things from the washing machine, because I would have to leave them out wet, because I wouldn't know what the right dry setting was, but regardless) so I waited from 7:30 to 12:30 to put my first load in, I had two in addition, someone pulled my second load out of the wash, hopefully after it finished, and left it on the machine, so now their crap is in there, and they're taking the ridiculously long hour and a half cycle, and I'm left with one load to do which apparently is just impossible, it was so unreasonable for me to want to use the machines for 2 hours at some point during the whole friggin day.
Thank you for bearing with that rant, my next step is to contact the landlord to get them to put up a damn schedule, third step is to get my load in next, and sit politely waiting while it runs so I can talk to the person who cut me off (calmly, I brought a second hamper, they may think someone had cut them off, but it's still just not a good situation).
God I miss laundry in Canada, my building had like 40 machines, there was only one occasion in a year and a half when I had to wait.
LOL, this cracks me up about laundry in Switzerland. I have been living here a while and am STILL going nuts! But one has to understand that the average Swiss person only needs to wash every 2 weeks . It is true! Ever go on a crowded bus in Summer??? I have had people take my laundry out of the machine and put it in a corner...grrrrr..... I refuse to put up with such nonsense. I bought a mini machine and connect it to my sink. Who the heck wants to wash in the machine where some unsanitary person washed there 2 week old boxer shorts....ekkkkkkkkkk
....meanwhile i am still searching for a coin op in basel. i found one in zurich but that doesn't really help. thankfully i can do a load now and then at work.....
I swear this was driving me crazy. I only get allotted time on the washing machines once every 28 days! And it's always on a Tuesday, meaning I effectively have 3 hours (if I get to leave work early) to do all my washing. I had to just go out and buy loads of extra clothes just so I have something clean to wear. So now I've just started hand washing, just to be safe. Still, it's a pain in the arse.
Add to that the fact that I sometimes have to leave the country for work and I end up in a situation where I may not get to use the washing machine for 2 months... It's absolutely fu##ing ridiculous.
They'll let me have a dishwasher, but not a washing machine?... Idiots...
