"the Kingdom of eSwatini'

I had to do a doubletake and check that this wasn't an old article from 1 April!

eSwatini—presumably the king does have his country's economy top of mind, and this is the first step to transform it into Africa's hub for internet commerce and all things online. Will he change his own name to iSwati?

This is so hilarious because 10 years ago I sent an email to Wunderground.com, which is an American weather website. I told them to start using CH for Switzerland instead of SW, which was Swaziland. They were like whaaaat?

I said, yes, geeks, you have Sweden, Switzerland and Swaziland all listed as the same country.

They immediately changed Switzerland to CH, but now this is going to just send them over the top. Isw for Swaziland? Is that even a thing?

Now how to get Austria to change it's name....

LOL,

Actually it is due to this being the original name which they unlike almost all other African countries did not (re)install after independence was gained after a period of being colonised. And a lot of people are happy that he shook of what was a mix of Swazi and English.

How about calling it Republik Österreich?

Crap, I can't type. T and Z are right next to each other (on my Swiss German keyboard). So much for avoiding confusion!

Yup, "Eastern Reich" should go down well with anybody who's clued up on their 20th Century history!

So when will Switzerland change its name to avoid confusion with Sweden?

And it's not even a joke: Swasiland changes its name because of Switzerland.

So, no more newbies traveling to the wrong country and relatives thinking you live in Africa.

When will Sweden change its name?

Damn! so does it means we will have to redo our official documents ????

I hate being swazilanded by administrations

I very much doubt that King Mswati changed the name of his country because of Switzerland.

I'm sure he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to name an entire country after himself.

Unfortunately, that 20 Minutes article is full of inaccuracies (as usual). Swaziland is not the last absolute monarchy; there at least half a dozen around the world, Saudi Arabia being probably the most (in)famous of them.

Still, I don't want to give up believing that a country changes its name because of confused expats.

But they have money. Soooo lovable.

According to the 20 Minuten article, Swaziland is the last absolute monarchy in Africa. I don't know if that is true, but if I remember correctly, Saudi Arabia is not in Africa.

Anyway, how about Sweden changing its name? They have a king too. Swedes may be fed up with being mistaken for Switzerlanders too.

Sounds like a virtual banking system.

Besides the Vatican and Swaziland they all are in Asia

But they put "Afrikas" on the next line! Do you really expect me to read more than one line of any 20 Minuten article?!
