That only came in in (about) the 80s. Back n the 60s it was the little twisted pack. But still never with chips, at least not where I grew up.
The salt pack in crisps disappeared for a few years in the 70s, reappeared a few years later.
Last time I went to Iceland it was still called Bejam…

The standard practice is that the man flies out and spends two weeks a year with a girl, lavishing gifts on her and paying a monthly retainer.
What they don’t appreciate is that the girl is with another different man for the next two weeks and yet another for the two weeks after that.
If holiday dates clash then she runs back to the mountains stating that her mother/aunt/brother is ill.
The girl earns money for her family and the bloke thinks he’s some kind of stud.
It’s prostitution by any other name.
It’s not just men from the UK but also from other European countries including Germany and Switzerland.

Yes, same guy as the first one shared by PhilMCR some months ago complaining about how hard life is in the UK.
Successful salesmen package prostitution (as explained by Tom1234) as an aspirational lifestyle in youtube videos. So, maybe it’s easier to understand why the guy was struggling to get ahead in life. It’s not current socio-economical conditions in the UK. It’s just that grifters are neither particularly smart nor hard-working.

Basically it works well until they retire and then their “good news darling I am coming to live with you permanently” crashes and burns

Well, business has long used geographical arbitrage, so it is not surprising that individuals do the same.
I think with women doing better in the workplace, fewer and fewer men are able to offer the traditional role of being the bread-winner and so it is no surprise to me that they might head abroad where their modest savings and income goes much further and is relatively a much better ‘offer’.
