I am looking for a british registered doctor (GP - General Practitioner) based in Switzerland, who is authorized to issue an ML5 medical fitness certificate for seafarers. Any doctor registered with the GMC (General Medical Council), and with a valid licence to practice, should be able to do this.
I really don’t think your going to find a British GP who is working in Switzerland whilst also paying to keep up their GMC registration (along with the CPD involved). Better to make an appointment in London and find a cheap flight.
Unfortunately, the UK MCA don't accept medical certificates issued in Switzerland, even if thre doctor is approved by SMNO. The closest non-GMC doctor accepted by the MCA is:
There is no CH-based doctor on the list of approved doctors abroad, and Switzerland is not on the list of countries whose medical certificates are accepted. I have asked the RYA and spoken to someone who has tried the certificates issued by AZ Basel and said it wasn't accepted.
Hope that works- but, as said above, registration and insurance costs many thousands, so not sure any UK GP would keep those going.
Another issue, is that the GP should be using your medical history to sign the document. Or at least do some extensive tests beforehand, as if you are actually unfit, for reasons that are not apparent on a quick visit- they would carry some responsability in case of a problem or accident.
There aren't any, sorry. I have to go to London every two years to get my ENG1, and it's the same doctors that do ML5s.
The MCA website has the list of authorised doctors around the world, and the RYA website has a link to it. You need to keep checking back because it keeps changing (I had to go to a different doctor a couple of weeks ago as the guy who did my last two ENG1s is no longer on the list).
