Looking to move to Switzerland. Lugano area preferably

Excellent!

The third watch company on the list is in Lugano: Alfex SA.

I'm sure the OP will find a few others.

Thank you! That's one place I didn't think of checking but very familiar with!

I am reaching out to everyone I know or can think of... It's exhausting

I will consider Geneva since all the companies are located in that area.

You guys are great!

Ariana_K I’m local here but have lived in L.A. for some time ; I can’t recommend enough the advice of Medea ! Before looking for a job, come over here, check how’s life in Switzerland and make your own opinion of the country. You may find that there is a chance for a better life....or, as many coming from the US,rather the opposite and that Switzerland isn’t the better place one had immagined . Read and research as much as you can about Switzerland and the Swiss! IMO this is the first step towards a better life in another country.

Good luck!

FMX is right, some people love it, but others hate it. This is just one of the latter:

Why i’m leaving Switzerland

So come over and check the country out, investigate the costs of property rental, food, transport, etc, and see if you think you could be happy here.

FMX, Thank you! that is a great suggestion and I will considering to do. When do you think is the best time of year to go? Is 2 weeks enough to be able to make an opinion?

Question off the subject: in some cases after each reply, there's a thank you section. How do you thank someone's post? Is there a specific button?

Well if you want to come to Watch Valley, do get in touch and I'd be happy to show you around. Accommodation is actually very reasonable in the area- do ask for ideas and recommendations if you decide to come, from 79 CHF to 105 for local inns and B&Bs.

You haven’t made enough posts yet. I think when you’ve done 10 it’ll appear.

You'll see it after you have 10 posts. It doesn't show up on some sections, like off-topic.

It is difficult to say if 2 weeks are enough. Important would be to check the aspects you expect to be better here, in fact to check as much as possible how life is here: appartments, social life, transports, consumer's life, school for your children, etc... The best would be to rent an appartment IMO.

Best time of the year? I'd tend to say November or January. Switzerland, as any country, is wonderfull when the weather is nice (usually during our summer time) and in winter with (in the past years a lot of) snow you'll feel on vacation, the country shows its "postcard side" with full of outdoor activities, that could be misleading. In November and January methink you'll see the more real Switzerland. You'll see what kind of social life we have when it's (more) cold and grey outside.

By the way, what do you think would be better in Switzerland ?

Thank you Odile for your generous offer. I will consider getting in touch when I get there. @FMX, I'm planning on visiting in October. Looking for affordable tickets at the moment. I would love to be able to experience the life and surrounding beforehand. I have applied to a position in Neuchatel! So we'll see!

Hiya, I was just wondering how you're getting on with the job hunting? I'm english and I moved to Switzerland nearly two years ago to work for VF Corporation. VF are based in Stabio which is 30 min drive from Lugano. All business is done in English, it's a very multicultural team, there are many brands and VF are experienced in relocating good people into Switzerland. You should take a look at their website and I hope that you find something suitable.

Good Luck!

IF there is no traffic.

With traffic, it can be an hour or more.

Tom

No way is it an hour or more! I do this journey every day and it takes 30-35 mins - NEVER more.

My wife was living in Stabio when we met (and for several years until she moved in with me), I have certainly spent more than an hour getting to/from there during periods of heavy traffic.

Fortunately, most of the time I was traveling by bike, so could lane split, but in a car, forget it.
