Hello, I just lost my British passport and have applied for a new one. Waiting time is 13 weeks. Has anyone been through the same situation ? How long did your new passport take to come through? Thanks
I had to renew mine back in April as it was due to expire in May. Sent it off and the UK passport office got in mid-April, but sat on it for several weeks before they started processing it. Once they did it went very quickly as you can see here.
Although it says they didn’t receive the documents until the 24th May the Swiss Post tracking info showed it was received by the UK Passport Office on the 3rd May.
I received my new passport on the 3rd June. Just under 9 weeks from online applying to receiving the new one.
IIRC the 24th will be the date they opened it rather than the date received. They call it date received but of you read their FAQs it is the date opened.
When in the Schengen Area, you are legally obliged to be able to identify yourself using an officially acceptable document, which in the case of UK citizens is a valid passport.
Give the UK embassy a call and see what the suggest you do... they may be able to move up the list.

So, 7.5 weeks. You'll most likely be fine, especially as we're in the off-season. You can get an emergency passport but you need to talk to the embassy.
If you're in Switzerland, then your permit is sufficient. I know this because I asked at our local police station. You only need a passport if you nip across the border. (Which I did several times while waiting for me new one).
Thanks for all the comments. Waiting time seems to be pretty quick but that is more for renewal. I dont know if waiting time is longer for a lost passport. I will contact the embassy if I dont hear any updates by November.
In the case of Not all there it was also a lost passport and replaced over the summer when they are busy plus have staff holidays. I think you’ll be fine.
Exactly this. But make sure you've reported your passport as lost (online). But look at how to get an emergency passport, and if it's getting close to the wire, start that process.
