Blame Beatrix Potter and her cast of characters Benjamin Bunny, Peter Rabbit and his family Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail.
And Watership Down
Right. Personally I can't enough of the stuff. But my wife and daughter would rather starve than eat Thumper!
Unlikely as long as you can get two chickens for under a fiver at Tesco's and ASDA.
Tesco rabbits:
YOU SEE! LOADS of rabbit!
Oh dear, I remember being dragged to watch that. Way too soppy for my taste. When I was in the UK some enterprising chap supplied rabbits via the local pub. Shot with a rifle so no lead shot, ready skinned and gutted, for a couple of quid a pair. Excellent for stews!
First of all, it doesn't claim to be, it just is one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the planet.
As for you not being able to find Rabbit on sale, I'm guessing that you probably didn't go to a butcher. As previously mentioned, most Supermarkets wouldn't stock it as they wouldn't be selling enough of them to make it worth their while. The same principle is followed here by Migro's and Coop with "fresh" merchandise.
You can get rabbit in most butchers in London, you may have to order them sometimes but my local butcher in Berwick St Market in Soho always had 20 or 30 of them hanging outside. As you head out into Chav land though they are more difficult to find, but again, most butchers would order them for you.
Canton= Solothurn
City= Solothurn
I was just passing by and noticed the sign, I believe it was 7.50Sfr per 100gram
BielStrasse
Sorry for my misunderstanding. I have just not experienced a difference nor have I experienced low quality at Coop or Migro's regarding the fresh produce.
In most parts of UK you can pick fresh rabbit on motorways and country lanes, particularly in the summer. And occasional pheasant too. No need to go to Tesco.
That's probably why people don't eat them any more. Too many squashed ones around, just puts you off.
75 Swissies for a kilo of steak?
I will continue my US > CH smuggling exercises ...
(if the Swiss customs people are reading this forum - I am just kidding, of course)
Some of the larger Coops (for example Volkiland) have individual hot peppers for sale in their produce department. I bought 1 for CHF 0.10, removed the seeds, planted them in a pot, ate the rest (pain!!!), and voila, chilis made in Swissieland.
Aww, c'mon! Chicken is so... yesterday.
The last time I looked chicken breast fillets in Tesco/Sainsbury etc were pretty pricey. I remember flinching at the price when I bought my first whole chicken here, but when I tasted it thought it was worth it.
What you can taste is probably all those hormones, steroids and antibiotics they pump them with so they can put on the pounds quickly in the overcrowded breeding sheds.
This may come across as harsh, but you have to know what quality is to recognise low quality. You, like several earlier posters, clearly do not know what decent fruit and veg look or taste like.
Sorry - I joined this one a bit late - are you on about eating chavs?
Quite right, about a $1 a lb IIRC from Germany courtesy of the DoD. Its generally tastier than all but the Scottish steaks and perfect for bbq's.
I would like to add that I agree as well. The produce I buy from the Coop does get mouldy rather fast (like one-to-two days after purchase)
