Mortgage for US Citizen / Resident

Hi,

I'm a US citizen / resident, and would like to buy a holiday home in Switzerland with a mortgage to use up to 6 months a year.

I've heard not a lot of banks will give mortgages to US citizens, but does anyone happen to know any banks that might?

UBS, Credit Suisse probably are the only ones. Maybe PostFinance. I think someone here said they had theirs with Migros Bank.

Edit: Looking at your other thread it seems you’re not resident in Switzerland. In which case I doubt any Swiss bank would lend you the money for a second home.

If you are resident here, whether you can purchase a second home depends on the type of permit you have. If you have a B then you can’t as you’re only allowed to buy a home as your main residence. If you have a C then it’s not a problem.

The OP might wish to expand his mortgage search beyond banks. In Switzerland, mortgages are also available from insurance companies, pension funds and even private individuals.
