So give me the low down. If I apply for a learning permit for A1 licence, can I already go out and buy a scooter? Then complete the training with that scooter and get my full licence after?
I'm wondering and a bit confused about how scooter / motorcycle licensing. I already own a full B licence so I can skip all the exams and testing. However the schools seem to think I have my own scooter already.
Yes.

You can buy a motorcycle/scooter any time you want. There are no special requirements.
You can register a motorcycle/scooter any time you want, as long as you have a Swiss resident (even a holiday home is an option).
You can drive a motorcycle/scooter a soon as you have a valid driving license or learners permit. In case of a learners permit you will also need to have a blue L on the vehicle. If you have a learners permit, a pillion passenger must have a valid driving license for the motorcycle/scooter.
Once you have a learners permit you must do the 12h mandatory basic motorcycle training within 4 months. While on learners permit you can only ride in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
As you already have category B, all you have to do are the 12 hours and you will get a full A1 license.
Thank you very much! That makes it much clearer now..
Just edited a thing about the pillion passenger. They only need a full license while you have a learners permit. Once you you have the full license you can take anyone on the back (at least as long as they can reach the foot rests, otherwise they must be in a child seat).
It seems I don't need to take a first aid course either, someone else said I did but the school didn't think so.
