I am considering moving from one of the two top Pharma companies in Basel, where I have been working for 5 years now, to the CRO. It kind of a complex decision to make and there is bunch of risks coupled with the overwhelming positives.
Pros:
- CRO base pay seems at least 30-40% higher to what I currently have.
- Fully remote, a lot of flexibility and very advanced technology.
- Interesting projects and possibility grow.
Cons:
- CRO is definitely faster pace compared to my relatively safe and slow pace role in Pharma. One could consider this a pros when thinking about career growth and development.
- The hiring manager is based in the USA.
- Company presence is rather limited in Switzerland. HR interviewer even asked if I am able to work in Switzerland (I come from the EU).
I am wondering if anyone of you made a similar move and could comment especially on the last two points. I am used to having a manager who is two desks away from me. Also, I am wondering what are potential implications for working for an international company. According to their website, they have a local office in Zurich and hire 20-50 employees in Switzerland (28,000 globally). I guess if the company has a local office I would get a local contract without involving a payroll company. They would be also obliged to pay or social contributions (AHV, BVG etc) and would need to consider local labor laws (number of vacation days etc).
I would start the new role in August. My permit B also expires by end of July. Should I be worried?
Anything else that comes to your mind that I should clear before signing the contract should I get one?
