My Microsoft Surface Pro screen surface has suddenly lifted and has a bulge on one side due to expanding battery! I stopped using it as it is a fire hazard!
Unfortunately, I am outside the warranty period. Some people say that MS will replace the battery, others say tough luck. How does one contact MS in CH for such things?
Secondly, are there any experienced repair shops that might replace the battery for me? I could try replacing it myself as a last resort.
Edit 1- After more research, I have concluded that it is just not worth it. After pulling the data off, I will decide to either spend CHF100 to buy a new battery and do self repair or maybe just bin it!
Edit 2- Will do self repair, nothing to lose, apart from cost of a new battery.
Had the same experience, but it happened to me on the first week of using the surface... what generation is it? Since mine was within warranty period but actually bought abroad did I have to call up Microsoft support and it tood quite some time to fix it... I just got a new one as an exchange.
I updated my original post regarding how to repair. It is a Surface Pro 4. I found THIS replacement battery on Digitec, but the review person states-
“Battery is not 0% discharged → motherboard damaged after replacing this battery, Surface pro 4 does not turn on anymore. have it checked by a specialist - repairer, the motherboard is damaged due to a discharge of the battery.”
Found another random website with THIS battery. Looks like non-original. OK will go with the Digitec one. How does one discharge the battery, or was that user error?
Was your screen lifting because of bloated battery or just bad screen glue? Find it shocking if due to bad battery! You still using it? Thanks anyway. My weekend work is sorted now
The screen lifted at least 1 cm. I remember I called MS telling them "I think my battery blew up" and my choice of words made the lady at the other end go full mental... I had to describe if I got hurt in the process or any colateral damage in the home. "No, you actually pack them in some security wrapper to prevent that, but that is looking like a really thick balloon now"...
