My fake Louis Vuitton contraband was seized at Geneva Airport's Customs

Dear DB, if you are find this thread so odious then why can you not resist peeking from time to time?

Go and have a large Scotch on the rocks and put your feet up

Yes there are, the material, the way the logo is sometimes cut, the way that the metal things are too yellow-shiny. Also LV bag handles are very light when you first buy them and then turn a bit darker with use and they are made of real leather. I spotted one today, the thing was hideous

Dad's Army

The Dam busters

Battle of Britain

633 Squadron

without really thinking about the others. I think if you look at the UK television programmes over Xmas period (BBC / ITV / C4) every day there was something or a documentary with WW II as the main theme.

Exactly and looks like the boys are using theirs !

And you really think that those were chosen simply by dint of the fact that they depict WWII?

My feeling is that they were selected because they are either very funny (Dad's Army) or great epics, as in the other films, that are obviously very popular viewing. I love the Dam Busters!!! Great film in it's own right and not because it is about the war (which we mustn't mention)

Fine, great films.............but every year, especially if we got DVD players and Amazon.com.....

Look what happens every time England play Germany at footie, just read the headlines of The Sun, all back to WW II only the real difference is Germany usualy win !!!

I don't really see your point. Mary Poppins gets rolled out with alarming regularity too, you know

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Perhaps your friend meant well (the one who gave you the bag) or perhaps they thought it was a "cute" joke because you already owned many LV real bags, but, that aside, all of Western Europe has become very strict about importing counterfeits into their countries. We see these type of horror stories all the time on a German program that airs every Saturday.

At any rate, you can call the LV lawyers and explain that you had no idea it was a counterfeit and that you would never own counterfeit merchandise, and that you feel so embarrassed about the whole situation. In the end, it will depend on whether you get someone at the other end who will be understanding or someone who is a stickler to the law.

A friend of ours had a similar situation and she called the lawyers that had sent her a similar letter. She did not have to pay anything, but did have to sign a letter agreeing that if it ever happened again, she would agree to pay a CHF 10,000 fine for every counterfeit item that was found in her possession (belonging to said company).

It never hurts to ask and it seems that the worst that can happen is for you to have to pay the CHF 200.

Good luck.

Advice? Sure.

Stop acting self-righteous. Explain that it was a gift from a former friend and that you own several LV items, and never assumed it was fake. Pay the 200 sfr fine (not like you can't afford it if you can swan about with the real stuff).

Act cooperative and contrite. Don't buy or accept fake stuff.

Stop being a jackass, although I fear that might be more difficult.

But it WAS designed by Porsche.

Frankly, if you think you have a case, go to court. You'll see if that cost you more of less than 200 CHF. And if you get your way, you'll feel like a hero everytime you'll look in the mirror. That's priceless.

How did the Louis Vuitton lawyer justify his request for payment?

In most cases, such requests are way too general and not sufficiently substantiated from a legal perspective, i.e., tell the lawyer that you refuse to pay the request amount unless it gets further substantiated. On the other hand, you have to agree to the destruction of your contraband purchase, there is no way around.

Fashion victim not a problem for some of us (Thank goodness).

Brass that was very errr crass?

And they wonder why they are not getting laid....

Well guess that answers the question as to whether you husband has a handbag or not !

(and from what i read, it's definately not fake !!! )

Believe me, my husband doesn't have an handbag.... and what he has is definitely not fake!

I am a user of definite fakes (North Cyprus) and "no trademark" marks so that I am NOT to be a victim of this problem !

If i understand correctly, you're walking proof so to speak !

oh my god.. hard to believe... Now i'm going to check the sham possibility of all the gifts my friends give me....
