Naked Saunas

The towels they give you at a sauna are always white and by the smell of them they've obviously been bleached for hygiene.

Do you bleach your swim suit as well..?

do you bleach your nether regions before jumping in the pool then?

seriously all this talk of hygeine and bleaching is seriously putting me off ever entering a sauna again, I am sure all that sweat can seep through a towel and onto the seats too?

There's only one type of bleaching I can think of down there... and I doubt the Swiss practise it.

anyway all that sweat has to go somewhere no, so where does it go please?

Not bleaching, but shower and clean yourself with soap before jumping back into the pool I would assume? - or do you also wash the swimwear with soap before going back in the pool?

However, I completely understand not wanting to sit stark naked in a public sauna, I'm the same - therefore a big towel to wrap yourself in is very useful

Where I come from mixed saunas are usually the private ones not in public places such as gyms or public baths - and most saunas have restrictions for swimwear.

And I'm with Tilia on that it is something you do in combination with showers/bathing for cleansing and to some extent to get warm again after too long time in the pool or in the ski tracks.

Socialize with clients and/or colleagues in the sauna - Never, I'd rather do that elsewhere....

I got fully dressed saunas often in the city of Zürich.

try any dancing party during the summer, all windows closed ( so the noise doesn't go out ) and minimal ventilation.

About the same.

What you wear, or don't wear in a sauna is probably the defining characteristic that proves whether as an Anglo Saxon, you can ever be totally continental...

How hard was the problem Phos?

It wasn't a hard problem, it was just kind of a big deal that attracted attention. I thought it would be best to try to calm the situation.

The knee jerk reaction, perhaps, Sada? (My family doctor uses a little hammer on my knees to see if I'm still alive.)

Well, it was about 8:30 when I headed to the shower, but it felt like it was 11:00 by the time I got there. If you really must know.

Time flies when the flies are undone?

embarrassing ?

embarrasing would it be if you did not have a visible reaction

That's not what I go to the sauna for. Consult jbrady for the other kind of sauna.

It would be no problem as long the eye do not wander, but mine obviously do (did).

I have always wanted to give it a go.. not sure if would go through with it.. but im sure it would be quite liberating. What about at the 'beach' (Lake Léman)?

I think it would be better if there were old 'crusty' people about especially for the first few tries, as I would be concerned something.. well.. you know.. (dont want to sound crude)

Oh, go on! No need to be shy. But be sure to come back and tell us all about it.

One of my fondest memories of me living in London is my German friend getting banned from the local swimming pool becaues she walked into the sauna naked. God, I have to phone her and remind her of just how embarrassed she was!

Mrs OM joined the Local Gym a few years ago and wanted to use the Jacuzzi.

She asked me "Will everyone be naked?"

I said "Yeah, definitely, it's Switzerland"

She said "OK, I'll go on the Woman's only day".

Well...in due course, she found herself in the Jacuzzi on her own completely naked...when she was joined by other women - all wearing swimming costumes.

She was getting funny looks - and got out as discretely and rapidly as possible.

I had to laugh when she told me!

What is far worse than being naked is that nasty word "wellness".

What ever happened to well-being?

Anyone know if the single sex saunas in Silhouette gyms have a 'naked only' policy please?
