natto

Thanks, Hsiang; I know I should have searched myself, but it's so much more fun when someone lends a helping hand!!

I felt quite hungry after reading the Bojangles stuff.

I think the "biscuits" are soft, a bit like English scones or maybe muffins?

We are only used to hard "biccies" (cookies) in the UK, and so it sounds funny

with sausage!!

Vive la différènce!

good news for natto lovers or anyone whose got curious after reading this thread - yumi hana has stocked up on natto

Oh, Raincookie, you've given me a good chuckle this evening and made me quite homesick. I thought all Brits were addicted to KFC, (aka Kentucky Fried Chicken). Bojangles is very similar to KFC, but they are known for their buttermilk biscuits. A biscuit in the American South is like a scone, but smaller, lighter and fluffier. It's eaten at breakfast time with butter melted on its' warm goodness and sometimes smeared with strawberry jam.

Fast food restaurants in the American South turn the biscuits into a savory breakfast sandwich when they pile on ham, sausage, fried egg, slice of American cheese, bacon, etc.

In the South, if you are about to drive thru a Bojangles to get a meal, you would be expected to say, "Hey, I'm fixin' to get me some Bo To Go. Y'all comin'?"

Eeek! Natto = Mucho Nasto! Notto!

If you must, you might find it at Yumihana, but I doubt they would dare carry it.

Why not make your own? Cook some beans and let it rot outside for a few weeks?

Sorry, I truly love many things Japanese, but I find natto very offensive.

A word for natto-newbies since the thread continues to throw up a mixed reaction - a lot of people do like natto. More Eastern-raised than Western-raised, but certainly including Westerners who first tasted it as adults (I'm one). If you're curious, then head for Yumi Hana - you may also be a natto fan. You never know unless you try it!

Actually, Natto is proven to have some of the most powerful health benefits for the most silent killer (thrombosis, blood clots which lead to strokes, etc.).

See a nice summary of the clinical evidence here: http://www.vrp.com/heart-health/natt...s-clot-busters

So, we should all get a few hundred grams per week. Whether you like the taste of it or not. Of course, you could also just buy it in capsule form.

sounds great. but it seriously makes me .... even thinking about it makes me....

Is there a substitute.?

Find me some peer reviewed clinical studies about Natto that can be found on a site that is not selling & I shall give what you say some credence.

I'm not sure if they sell what you're looking for but Uchi Tomi have a web presence and a forum. You may be able to get them to post you some or information about an alternate location of the product you're looking for http://www.uchitomi.ch/
