I'm not new here, alway read the posts, but this is my first opened thread . I really enjoy the fact that this forum works, people always participating and helping each other.
So... to the matter:
I maybe wrong but I looked for it and I couldn't find another thread with this specific question.
I am thinking about having a cat soon, but I still don't know what is necessary for that. I mean legally, and so on. I have no idea if I have to register the future pet, where and how. And also I heard something about a chip as well... could anyone tell me how does this works?
Cat owners do not have to jump through all the bureaucratic hoops we dog owners do. There is no microchipping or registration requirement for cats, no mandatory training classes, nor do cat owners have to pay the annual taxes that dog owners are hit with.
Nonetheless, I would encourage you to have your cat microchipped and registered in ANIS, especially if he/she will be an outdoor cat. It's an added measure of protection for your cat, and peace of mind for you.
If my cat flap had only registered the chips 10 years ago, Jimmy would not have become a beloved member of the cat family!! And the only surviving one!!
Good thread! I was wondering about the same subject, even though I can't have any pets right now.
Another question that fits this thread is: if I see a cat, not wearing a collar, outside during day and night, and seeming like it doesn't really have a home, what should I do? Or, better, what can I do?
Works very well, except a couple of times when our two little fluffy wimps have been chased by the monster downstairs which has managed to follow straight through... It tends to leave again quite fast though when I have grabbed the water pistol
A friend of mine just had a new cat door put in that recognises the chip.
The reason?...... The dreaded Maarda thing also uses that door ..... and it gets into the ceilings and chews big holes in the roof, or chews up piping. It also gets into auto engines and chews up the rubber hoses. Its a big "rat" like rodent.
But for importing a cat into Switzerland, it is necessary that it is microchipped. I guess it's different if you adopt one in Switzerland. (Not sure from where the OP intends to get the cat) I find it strange that my cat HAD to be microchipped but didn't need to be registered under ANIS.
