Apparently the CH passport is to change design in October. I’m now Swiss, but nevertheless, I am interested by the mention of ‘a passport for foreigners living in Switzerland’. This is a new one on me.
I think it is meant for those, who are not able to get a passport from their country of citizenship.

Introduction of the new Swiss passport family
Bern, 22.08.2022 - The introduction of the new Swiss passport family is scheduled for October 31, 2022. While the design will be renewed all around, the functionality and the issuing procedure will remain unchanged. All previously issued passports will remain valid until the registered date.
The design of the Swiss passport is around 20 years old. It was last adapted to the security standards of the time in 2006 with the introduction of biometrics. The current security standards now make it necessary to renew the Swiss passport family.
The Swiss passport will continue to appear in the familiar red cover. Together with the 26 cantons, the "fifth Switzerland", which represents the Swiss abroad, will now also be represented on one of the visa pages.
All previously issued passports will retain their validity until the registered validity date. For those persons who want the passport in the new design, an appointment must be made for the collection of biometric data at the passport offices and the competent Swiss representations abroad from October 31, 2022.
The issuing procedure remains identical. The personalization and dispatch of the passport will be ensured by the Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics (FBL) as before. Combinations of passport and identity card can continue to be ordered and will be composed of the current identity cards.
The new Swiss passport family consists of the ordinary passport, the diplomatic passport, the service passport, the travel document ("refugee passport") and the passport for foreign persons living in Switzerland. An emergency passport in the new design will be introduced at a later date and will replace the current provisional passport.

Hard to believe the current design is already 20 years old, as it doesn't feel that 'obsolete' vs. other countries'..

Lol, that's an old generation Swedish passport from early 2000s and it has been phased out. I have the Swedish citizenship but I have never had a Swedish passport. It's a waste of money because Swedish passports are only valid 5 years. You cannot apply for more than 3 passports in a period of 5 years.
The new design won’t be published until the official release.
Not sure how that’s supposed to make sense.

Passport anecdote of mine when returning to Suisse after a visit in the US, as I was approaching the Intl security check to go to my gate I had my passport in my hand with boarding pass. A woman who looked Indian/Pakistani already eyeballing me from 10meters away already started repeating with a mantra of 'Paradise' - as I neared, I was confused what she was saying much less why or to whom. She then said, Switzerland - it's paradise
