I found a Newfoundland Dog Club near Geneva, but haven't been able to find something similar in Zurich? Does anyone know of one? I know it's a pretty specific ask. Thank you!

Wow - it does indeed seem that Newfoundlands are pretty specialist here. Looks ike there are only four active breeders.

We've owned two Landseers, both rescues, who lived to the ripe old age of 12. I've avoided even thinking about having another dog and managed to get my fix through dog-sitting Newfs and other big breeds, attending the Newf water training in Geneva, and stalking the farmer's Newf in the neighborhood.
It doesn't seem rescue is a "thing" here for Newfs, and owning them has ruined me for other breeds.

And you are right, it is rare that a Newfie comes into rescue here. There is a group that you might keep an eye on now and again, although it looks like there are not any in now. It’s a German group:

They are gorgeous. 12 is an accomplishment for such a big dog.
Not wanting to tempt you too much, but in neighbouring France they have a nice website compiling all the dogs from SPAs by breed etc. I tend to find a lot more possible rescues/adoptees there.
Here's one I found there in case you are interested. Sounds a bit of a sad case.
It depends. Our male rescue was about 68kgs, fur and drool included. The female was about 60kgs.
They are, with a personality to suit. Gentle, sweet dogs with a lovely disposition. Much like myself.

It was a struggle, in the end, to do "the right thing." Broke my heart, but had to put them down after they eventually become immobile. I was carrying them into the backyard and lifting them into the car, etc. Still not over it and it's been years. Never easy, I suppose, but it comes with loving a dog.
Oh, thank you. I hadn't thought of looking over the border. I know there are "rules and regs" to manage, but I absolutely prefer to rescue. Poor thing. What's wrong with people? They are such a gentle breed.
