no clue about perfume, help!

Perfumes and mascara are waste of money... as it often ends up in sweat and tears anyway...

All of the above, in a room. On me, not sure... hence this thread.

Citrus always smells like shower gel to me.

Vanilla - yes but doesn't tend to smell nice on me (at least not the ones I've tried... then again, they were cheap drugstore brands and that was ages ago.)

Wood, leather, musk - yes yes yes, on a man. On me? No idea.

Girl next door, except when I'm not. Does that help?

Not some bewitching siren, not remotely sporty, just... comfortable, interesting, feminine and a bit adventurous in my own little way. (gah, can't believe I just wrote that!)

--------

Lately I've been wearing Body Shop White Musk and I love it, but not for everyday. (I feel a bit too sexy in it, if that makes any sense - can be distracting.)

I used to wear a lot of straight-up florals (generic drugstore brands, names like "wild honeysuckle" and "island gardenia") but have really gone off those. Never liked the 'heavy' stuff, Poison, Obsession, etc.

Lady in Red - the half-bottle I threw out hasn't actually smelled like perfume in ages, so I don't know if I would still like the scent or not, but I remember loving it when I was 18 or so. Then the last few years it's been Aspen and Sunflowers. Not crazy about either of them any more. I swear either my body chemistry or my taste has radically changed in the last 18 months.

So there you go. Suggestions? I know it's all been cheapie brands up to now but I am willing to give moderately expensive stuff a go too.

try the Estee Lauder White Linen series - original, Light Breeze and Pink Coral. All are fresh, floral, quite delicate and suitable for everyday use, not too sexy and overpowering.

You sound scarily similar to me (girl next door, unsporty etc!) you must be from the UK!! (forgive me if I'm wrong!).

I can only recommend the two perfumes that I wear at the moment - one cheap-ish, one slightly more upmarket, (or just marketed up, as the case may be!!). For day I wear Adidas Pure Lightness, a subtle but uplifting fragrance costing about 15 chf. You can only get it from Coop or Coop City, annoyingly.

For "going out" or "posh" occasions, (sadly few & far between for this busy mum of two!) I slap on half a bottle of Gucci II, it's in a pale pink box if that helps when you're wading through the dazzling glut of pongs they have on display these days!

Happy shopping, and I hope you find your perfect scent soon!

I'm sorry that you live so far away from me, or I would have definitely made an offer of a bit of girly support in your upcoming fragrance hunt!! Best of luck!

I think you'd like the Esteé Lauder White linnen series too. They're lovely. There's a new one out too, but I' haven't smelled it yet

Another really lovely, not over powering perfume is Issey Miyake (but I can't remember the name!!! It's in a tall conical shaped bottle).

Otherwise I love Chanel - madamoiselle & chance, Clinique - Happy to be (different from Happy), Gucci - Envy Me II and Dior - Miss Cherie

Rush? Yeah I like that one too. Armani White is nice too.

Lolita Lempicka - smells delish and comes in a cute apple shaped bottle!

I also love Chanel Allure

Its getting a bit too complicated.. lets keep it simple.

MathNut: Just buy any perfume and wear it with a Smile, Im sure you will make it more alluring than it ever was

In fact finding the right perfume is just like having this huge thunder and lightning crush on that someone who just walked in. You just know, this, I want.

Another thumbs down for angel from me

Years ago a friend of mine was wearing poison and it smelt really good on her, i bought some and when i sprayed it on me it smelt awful .

In the day i wear Tommy Girl by Tommy Hilfiger, and when we are going out in the evening i wear Amarige by Givenchy

I'll have to check it out

Channel Allure is one of my favourites too

I have just bought some Bananna Republic perfume while i was in the states, nothing fancy just their own brand I suppose but very nice

my mother in law wears poison - say no more

It's L'eau d'Issey. Yes, very nice and fresh, smells like melons and cucumbers.

Thank god you did not say she wore Tommy Girl

Being a Sagittarius and having the Occupation Möchtegernantiquarliebhaberin I would suggest to look at Jo Malone pomegranate noir scented perfume : The color that this scent evokes in fine is deep burgundy red or deep garnet red as streaks of black traverse the composition. It is one of the more abstract perfumes by the brand!!!! I use it and and people I work with very pleased (:

It comes like this

That's the one

Sounds like it! OK, I'll give that a sniff too.

I'm a Scorpio though: is that likely to make too much of a difference?

Have just been googling round a little bit... I love the descriptions of all these 'oriental' fragrances - sandalwood and roses and oud and so on - but not sure if I would be comfortable wearing them. (Guess there's one way to find out!)

My dad is a Scorpio he likes it every time I wear it (:
