No more milk in my life! What should I do? ( Medical issue )

I will have a good look in the big coop near me next week.

Thank you so much everyone for such great feedback so soon

I'm going to cut out dairy for a while and see how I go, after I've done that, I might go to the docs if something is still up.

Thanks again.

They actually do sell different Oatly oat milks here in Muller Reformhaus shops in Switzerland.

Oh thank you! It's quite a way to the nearest one, but voilà, closer than Germany!

If the problem does turn out to be lactose intolerance, Rice milk and Almond milk are good alternatives.

This. I actually have a strange food allergy (I can't digest fruit sugars in certain forms or artificial sweeteners) which at first I thought was IBS or lactose intolerance, and it turned out that I was just reacting poorly to anything in my stomach because my digestive system was so irritated from all the fruit I was eating (which I was trying to do to be "healthy"). So something is going on, but it could be something completely bizarre. I would go to the GP and get a referral for an allergist.

If you do wind up being lactose intolerant, my friend's mom has no issues with the migros lactose free range. I don't know if they are available in Switzerland but in the US they sell the enzymes that break down lactose in little tablets.

I know how sucky it is to feel like you can't eat anything. Sad for you.

They are called Lacdigest here. On prescription as far as I know.

Everybody is different, I won't say anything medical here. But it is wise to treat hard cheese, soft cheese, yoghurt and fresh milk separately. One can react badly to all of them, some of them, only one of them... all different.

Lifestyle comment: I don't see the problem of just not using milk at all. Is renouncement to sour cream, weep cream and milk in breakfast cereal so hard psychologically? I would respect that, I just don't get it.

FYI: rates of lactose intolerance around the world. As you can see, if you're European, chances are you are not lactose intolerant. If you're non-European, stay away from the cow juice!

I strongly reccomend that the OP goes to the MD for a full work up and diagnosis.

Whilst the diagnosis may seem self evident from the symptoms, differential diagnosis is criticial to ensuring that the right diagnosis is made and the right treatment is given (for example; a torn muscle and a deep vein thrombosis have overlappping symptomatology - but a torn muscle is merely unpleasant, a deep vein thrombosis has the potential to kill you). In self-diagnosing and self-treating you run the risk of ending up either improperly treating your ailment or restricting yourself unecessarily.

Good Luck

I belong to 80-100% group.

My sister and my dad also suffer from milk that contains lactose.
