No one is inmune to culture clash

It’s been a while without a rant about how local people do EVERYTHING wrong.

I was reading blogs a bit and found a link to this extremely serious and unwillingly comic essay.

It’s comic for several reasons. Writer, Ai Weiwei (alleged Chinese dissident) is a more or less know guy. The guy is mentioned in airline magazines which is the standard for global reach and political correctness. The rant checks all the marks of the ignorant immigrant who forgets foreign lands and cultures do exist:

  • Open your eyes sheeple! Check.
  • Locals have terrible food: check.
  • Restaurants from my culture suck in this land: check.
  • Locals eat whatever is offered as food: check.
  • Locals have no humor. Check.
  • I don’t understand anything, I don’t speak the language, anyway here’s my rant about how the local culture sucks! Check.

The old EF is dead, otherwise we’d offer an honorary membership to Mr. Weiwei.

Wait, isn’t him the same guy who was forbidden entry to Switzerland because he arrived without a visa, and his rant was published in the New York Times?..

Indeed. I just found it extremely comical. I don’t understand anything of the local language, locals are a bunch of idiots.

When my great nephew was a fine art student in Dundee he went to a talk he did at St Andrews, said he was really interesting to listen to.
