I disagree, they'll definitely be judging you and comparing.
And just out of interest, how many gyms have you been to?
I'd love to, believe me...
I don't do workout naked - do you?
The kind of gyms Richdog frequents....?
Possibly
When I chose it I didn't know.....Honestly it never even crossed my mind it could be like that!
How long is your gym contract? If you're planning on quitting, make sure to give advance notice as some gym contracts have fine print stating that if you don't give 3 months notice, your contract will automatically extend by another 12 months and you "must" pay.
Some gyms however are part of larger chains or they have partnershisp. Ask at your gym if they have a partner with curtained female showers, and if yes and the partner is not too far away, you could always go there instead (in some instances, partners accept up to a certain number of entries versus the 'original' gym that you signed up in... it's still better than nothing).
The irony of it all is that when you shower naked there's a very high chance that nobody is giving you a second look but the moment you walk into a shower wearing a bikini you can bet you're the center of attention for the duration.
People are looking or staring at your body the whole time, start looking around and you will notice it. Not to make you paranoid or anything, but...
Pfft, those are FKK clubs, silly. Not that I... err... oh forget I said anything.
Spot on.
Admittedly I've only been a member of 3 gyms but each had a walk round of the facilities, allowing for me to view the what the have to offer. I haven't been to a gym here (as my expandind waistline testifies) but given the expense, I'd want to know what I was getting before I started.
i thought it was quite common. the girls at my old workplace used to whinge about it all the time. quite normaly for men's changing rooms too.
could be worse though. i know of some boarding schools which don't have doors on the toilets!
At least my school had doors!
No locks, mind, and a welcoming committee at the entrance, but I understand that's normal for the kind of school which I attended...
Charming, especially if the kids had onion soup or beans earlier in the day
Reminds me of this one time... let's just say someone wasn't fast enough when they had to take a number 2 in a common toilet "bench" during a winter outing in my army days...
I don't think that it's just in Switzerland, I used to work for a gym in London and there were no such thing as a cubicle for people to get changed in...
Well, I'm not from England
Just trying to point out that Switzerland is not the only country without cubicles for changing
Ms MacGregor's shyness to expose her naked body in a gym is understandable considering her choice to hide her face behind a helmet on a semi-anonymous Internet forum.
I do not wish to invade your privacy, Madam, but I believe people in your surroundings will pay less attention to your scars and your tattoos than you think. Remember that curiosity and attention are often sparked by (over-)concealment.
Certain portions of English society are notorious for their fondness for (or addiction to , some might say) public nudity: From rugby players and their lads-together-in-a-soapy-tub, to former public schoolboys and their bath houses, one might almost think that English people considered such exhibitionism to be normal .
I can assure you, however, that amongst ordinary English people, this kind of thing is considered most peculiar, and a little improper.
We leave that kind of weirdness to the toffs...
Come back Mr Cromwell, all is forgiven!
I understand the op. I don't have a problem with how I look but I wouldn't go showing off the goods to just any tom, dick or mary. I found that this actually increases interest, boys have always been trying to look at my knickers, simply cos I won't show them!
Most people who go to gym do check others from the corner of their eyes. I certainly do
