My wife has been offered a Job in Geneva Switzerland, she is a UK National. The company will be applying for the relevant residence/work visa.
A couple of questions have come up, as we have a property in France which is about an hour from Geneva so commutable.
She, or myself don't have an EU passport and are not French Resident, though her children have both UK and Irish passports through their father.
Firstly, for a B permit, I assume you have to have a residential address in Switzerland, and therefore she would not be able to live in our French Property and commute daily to Geneva for work?
And as she is not EU/French resident the G permit for cross boarder workers is not an option.
Secondly, as I haven't found the information online does the Permit B allow you to travel within the EU without the Schengen 90 days in 180 rule applying, e.g. would she be able to travel freely to our property in France at weekends, for holidays with out having to worry about how many days she is in France?
The Swiss permit gives the right of free movement within Schengen so it shouldn’t be a problem her travelling to/from France. However, of course atm, everyone still needs to check what covid restrictions are in place in each country they want to visit.
Yes. The B permit counts as a Schengen visa. She must carry it with her when she crosses borders. It does not allow work or residency though!
When moving across the EU external borders her passport should not be stamped, but many passport officers do not know this. I had an exit stamp crossing from Hungary to Serbia, and an entry stamp at Basel airport courtesy of the French. Internally of course it isn't a problem as you'll rarely be checked - Switzerland being within Schengen. But you may nonetheless be asked to show the permit.
