We decided to change the internet provider for our apartment from UPC to Yallo.
Yes, I did contact Yallo as well, and they gave inconclusive answers, so trying my luck here .
It's a standard Cable connection, but after confirming the order with Yallo for starting on the 4th of May I noticed the notice period for cancelling with UPC is 2 months (even after the minimum contract curation of 2 months).
Apart from delaying the starting date, would the new connection with Yallo be able to be activated first days of May, even if we still have the contract with UPC until the 30th of June? We like the Yallo offer and extra's (TV box and much higher speed potential), so don't mind paying the 2 extra months @ UPC if it has to be, but of course only if it does work and can be activated.
IMHO it's the router and the provider's connection that need's to "talk" to each other, doubt the actual line into our apartment will be "blocked" by UPC up to 30.06. But for sure someone here knows more about this?
You should be able to use Yallo as long as it is activated , cable lines should not be blocked, they just provide a connection which is activated by your provider.
Assuming that these kind of connections work the same in Switzerland as in the US... It should not be an issue. At some point outside the building, or in the service areas of the building there is a junction box. Right now the UPC cable is plugged into the line running into your apartment. All that will happen is Yallo unplugs the UPC cable, and plugs their cable into the connection.
Or if Yallo leases the "last mile" connection from UPC, it all happens via computer and MAC address, but it still should not be a problem.
Apart from paying extra overlap costs (annoying) it won’t be blocked. Fibre to the apartment can be used by any equipment. Companies dont unplug cables to plug their own in !!!! The new router will register itself with your new provider and away you go.
We had the basic 100mb contract with UPC and chose Yallo cable Max which has up to 1Gbit. I know it's the max but it can't get worse.
Even when getting the same speed we get around 40% discount compared to UPC and getting Yallo tv with recording option and 7 day replay option is a good.
What does Sunrise network have to do with cable connection, beats me?
Get it - no issues with UPC, as it is standard 60 days. Not sure if Yallo provides anything better unless it is a cheaper price - but they you are stuck with them for 24 months.
Anyway, as no one was able to answer your query - the two providers will need to agree on the switch-off/transfer date. If UPC insists on 60 days, then it will be 61st day since you file your request with UPC that you will be able to move to Yalllo.
