Normal Naturalisation Switzerland - applicant diary

Thanks for the congrats nileblitz. I presume you've long since moved on to the Cantonal stage?

So here is my timeline, hopefully it will help those applying as well.

Einbürgerung: Zürich City .

Regular Naturalisation

Trip to the Stadthaus in Zürich. Got all the forms and information. Collected all the papers.

18.04.2016 Sent the papers.

24.06.2016 C-1 German Certificate sent.

10.01.2017 Invite for Einbürgerungsgespräch.

08.02.2017 Einbürgerungsgespräch in the Stadthaus:

45 min conversation, very nice guy from Wallis. I was well prepared. He just wanted to know how much I knew about Switzerland, and I explained everything: Geography, history, all the Federal councils and their departments, I spoke a bit in Swiss German as well. He liked that a lot. Got a very positive review from him. All in all, it was a good chat. I was quite nervous before, but there was no need for it.

7.04.2017 City of Zürich payment CHF 1200

23.05.2017 Kanton payment CHF 500

10.08.2017 Federal Approval. CHF 115 payment.

11.08.2017 Papers sent to Kanton ZH Einbürgerungsabteilung.

22.08.2017 Confirmation received. Swiss!

24.8.2017 Schrifftempangscheine from the Gemeinde.

Made an appointment at the Passbüro.

29.08.2017 Passbüro Biometrics taken. CHF 158 for the Passport and ID combo.

31.08.2017 Received both Passport and ID today.

All done! Took 16.5 months in total. Finally Swiss as well!!!

Cost around CHF 2300 for all the papers and passport and id from start till the end.

No references were contacted. No police came by for interview.

So that my my entry in the applicant diary.

Cheers and wishing you all a pleasant day

P.S I would like to thank everyone here on the Forum who helped me with information and those who posted their own timelines here, it was very helpful.

- Past the Geman and Swiss Test early April.

- Had the Gemeinde interview 13th July (would have been a couple of weeks earlier but was not available)

- 8th Aug, the Gemeinde reviewed my application

- 11th Aug they sent me a bill for 1,450 + 30 chf (myself and son)

- Had our names put in the local rag 15th Aug - There is 30 days after the ad that people can object to our appication

- Next Step Zurich Kanton approval, followed by Bundesrat. Heard Zurich can take some time

- Received a letter last week (30th Nov.) with a bill of 500chf to pay.

Said pay the bill within 30days and you will receive some documents in 3-5 months

Looking at the Diary above, this took ca. 2.5 months for Sam Ali

Turned in the Ordinary Naturalisation applications for both kids on Friday (01.Dec.17). Was told that ID papers will be sent to India for checking, and that we'll probably hear from them in summer 2018. Charged 1000Fr for this 'checking' and 200Fr for the file. So my questions are: Is this 1000Fr going to be over and above the usual ballpark figure of ~2000? Ditto for time frame. Is this 6 months part of 16-18, or extra?

thanks all, for the replies.

Hi Sva,

I am presuming Canton Fribourg as you list your location as Villars Sur Glane.

(Note to other posters, please specify Canton and Commune . In Switzerland, it’s almost a requirement to specify these to work out any applicable regulations).

The 1000 CHF should be just the Cantonal Service fees. As you said, the 200 CHF is just a filing fee. When it goes to the Commune expect more fees. And if it goes to the Canton for the final decision, more fees. From memory of my time, it’s part of the normal ± 2000 CHF (each).

More on the communal fees and process here: https://www.villars-sur-glane.ch/aut…aturalisations

The first 6 months is just file checking. Also, if you don’t hear from them by about June, then nothing will happen until late September. It’s part of the 3+ years (18 months is quite short for Fribourg) of the process. Of course, different circumstances can affect the speed of the process.

Anecdotal evidence from friends and coworkers is that the time in Fribourg is blowing out, most likely due to a rush of applicants getting in before the law changes.

Hello!

I am just starting naturalization process in Lausanne and have almost all the documents required, apart from tax attestation. They do not want to understand what I need. What document have you asked them for? Because they have sent me a document with future payments to be made in 2018.

Thanks!

Copie de l'avis de taxation de la dernieĢ€re période fiscale

Is it actually requested? Did you use the words used on the application form?

Are you sure your knowledge of French is good enough for naturalization ?

No it's not for only the last fiscal period, you need 5-year history in VD.

It's per the last page of the application, the bullet point there says to photocopy the first page of application and send it to them. Sorry don't have exact wording as it is not in front of me at the moment. But I just went through it, I wrote them an email asking how to request it, ie. if there was a special formulaire or something like the others. With utmost efficiency, they treated my email as the formal request and I received it in the mail within a week.

Did anyone start the ordinary Naturalisation process in Zurich (City) recently?

I am currently collecting all the papers. The only piece missing is the "Zivilstandanzeige". First I thought they might want the birth certificate, but the info said "max 6 month old" (my birth certificate is certainly much older). Since the "Zivilstandsamt" is a very Swiss thing, I am not sure what to do with this requested paper ...

Google gives me marital status so I assume a copy of your marriage certificate which is less than 6 months old?

A quick update to my situation. Similar to MarkJ, I just received the "recommend" from Canton level, so I'm now waiting for the next steps. I've been warned that it might take another 6-8 months for Federal review.

Marriage certificate would be logic (=Zivilstand), but if not married? I was hoping for someone who has collected all relevant info and knows what type of certificate is needed ...

A certificate that shows your marital status (single, married, divorced, widowed, other), NOT a marriage certificate!

If you are Swiss, you request it from your home town (which may, or may not be, where you live).

If you are not Swiss, well then have fun with that!

Tom

A document stating that you’re not married. Much more difficult to get since it doesn’t really exist. Question has been asked before though so maybe do a search here or on Google to find it.

I think it’s often called a ā€˜certificate of no impediment’ (for unmarried non-Swiss nationals).

Some possible info about getting one of those on this thread: https://www.englishforum.ch/family-m…mpediment.html

That's exactly as I did for Canton Fribourg. Mine was even apostled. However, they still asked for a Statutory Declaration, witnessed at the embassy that "I was not, and never was married". Together they were held to be more or less equivalent.

I can't remember the name of this document, but it was easily obtained from the kreisburo. Just go to the schalter and ask. You will also need to order a new birth certificate. If you are from USA, it needs an apostille, which can be a pain in the ass. In the states, only the Secretary of State of the state you were born in can issue an apostille.

Nope, it's a document that shows your marriage status (married, in a registered partnership, single (never married nor in a partnership), single (divorced), single (widowed).
