Normal Naturalisation- why swiss?

Hi all,

Im in the process of applying for swiss citizenship and i wondered if there is really a wrong answer to the question "why do you want to be swiss?"

i have many reasons, such as lived here a long time, feel very comfortable here, safe clean respectful environment, kids born and in local schools, we like and follow swiss values. I guess we would like to be able to contribute fully to our community and that would involve voting and for sons to be able to carry out military service.....i always imagined swiss citizenship also to be an outward sign of integration.

now i have started to wonder am i missing something.......do i need to find a deeper reason? or am i just suffering sunstroke and overthinking

thanks for your thoughts!

We were not asked this question at all, but I know it is very commune-dependent. Regarding the interview I think the most useful way to prepare is to ask someone who has recently interviewed in your commune what questions they were asked.

But to me your answers seem fine. I think so as you you don't say you want to become Swiss so you can sponge off the Swiss social services for the rest of your life you'll be fine.

I'm guessing you have sunstroke...

Seriously, don't overthink it.

Those reasons are good enough :-)

Yea... I'd be suspicious of anyone wanting their kids to do military service... sounds like you are trying to butter them up.

There are no right answers. Everyone is motivated by different goals across a spectrum of social, economic, cultural, political, etc. dimensions. Your’s do appear to be fairly typical of many applicants. Go with those!

And nothing suspicious at all about your desire to have your sons take on military service IMHO. I respect that. Many families with a history of military service in their home country would likely be proud to see their next generation continue to follow in the tradition to serve with duty and honor. And even those who do not have such previous ties may want to. In any case, it is your desire which you are well entitled to express. Your sons will decide on their own accord when they are of age.

Good luck 🍀
